Get funny or die?

In this episode of my vlog/web series, “What’s So Funny?” as I work to get past the death of a loved one, I set out to explore the relationship between pain and humor and begin my journey from tragedy to comedy.

Web series description:

Famous writer and humorist, Mark Twain, once said, “The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter,” and in this vlog / web series, “What’s So Funny?” filmmaker and comedian Tasha Caufield, (The Makings of a Stand-Up Comedian), sets out to investigate just how powerful that weapon is when it comes to pain.

After losing her mother-figure to a sudden and inexplicable death, Tasha works to pick herself back up by turning to the only coping mechanism she’s ever known: humor. As she attempts to turn the tragic events of her childhood into a funny memoir, Tasha sets out on a journey to find out “what’s so funny” about all the pain she experienced to begin with. For help in understanding why we laugh at tragedy, its effects on our mental psyche, and the potential cathartic, healing, and/or weapon-like power humor contains, Tasha consults with other comedians, psychologists, experts on humor, and anyone else who seems to “get the joke.”

In the end she hopes to learn whether one can use comedy to truly triumph over pain. Or are there limitations, risks, and/or unforeseen consequences that make anyone yielding this whimsical weapon vulnerable to a fate that’s, well, not so funny.
