I'm so lucky to have found the FIRST edition prismacolor color pencils! I'm going to compare them to modern Prirsmacolor pencils, Faber Castell Polychromos and even a little bit of Crayola Color pencils. We're gonna find out if the quality has been on the incline vs the decline.

My grandma's a retired artist who owns a set of Prismas from the 50s. The only time I've ever heard her swear was at the new Prismas.

I'm watching this during quarantine, and when you said, "two thousand nineteen!" I took a deep breath and thought about the good old days. It has been an age...

Growing up in the 80s my grandmother used to buy my sister and I the mega boxes of prisma color pencils, they were sooooo fancy, the box folded into a stand, made me feel like a real artist. Thanks Babcia❤

I love that you included some historical facts and not just go "here's a drawing and here's the other drawing, bye"

Alternative theory: they have always been softcores but the cores have dried/hardened over time Note: I have a set of eagle prismacolors and they are just as soft as my new ones, but they were in an old protective tin when I bought them. Maybe air exposer over time changes or impacts the cores

When you say 90s I keep hearing nighties, like the sleepwear, anyone else?
  • @phoenixdowner
I always knew Prismacolor lead would break, but I also always knew they were softer pencils. These weren’t your Crayola color pencils. They were something you took care of like you were carrying around fine China. I remember laying a blanket around me so if they fell on the floor the lead wouldn’t break on the inside.

No one noticed that Rae accidentally put “blending (what they’re known for)” 2 times?
  • Everyone: listens to Rae talking about the colored pencils. Me: looking at her, extremely bright, neon nails
  • I legit only saw the thumbnail without reading the title and was like “yeah it’s Rae”
  • nobody else offers important content like this, this kid of video is so appreciated in the art community
  • @dailymdesdemona
"Test 2: blending Test 2: blending Test 4: drawing" I think there may have been a slight editing issue lol Also, when you show the 90s pencils in the box, it looks like there are 2 whites, but when you go to swatch the gradients, white is missing from the 90s column. Did something happen??
  • The Prisma colors being off center is a CORE issue Sorry that joke was a bit CORE- ny

Ittterly just turned on notifications and then instantly in less than a second got a notification for this

I can tell you took those suggestions to heart! I can see them shining through in this video. Very good balance of informativeness, chillness, Rae energy, and Quality Art.

This was so interesting. I love how you included the history behind the making of the prisma colors. :D
