This is a beautiful cartoon. It shows empathy towards the less fortunate ❤
-
The Tailor, the Baker, and the Toy Shop owner have heart of golds!
-
The part where the mom cries because that’s all she can provide and the kids still are so grateful makes me tear up every time
-
I remember crying over this as a kid. Age 33 and it STILL brings me to tears!
-
I used to watch this cartoon with my grandpa, he would always tell me to appreciate the things I have and how hard my parents worked to support us. We were poor, but we were happy.
-
Ugh breaks my heart when the little boy says “aww I’m still hungry ma” 🥺😭💔
-
I am watching this on my 61st birthday. saw it many years ago, it made me cry them, it made me cry today.

Story from 1936 & I'm crying in 2021 ♥️

I use to watch this with my family when I was quite little in the early 2000's. My grandma would compare this to her time growing up during the Great Depression, and I never forgot it. Somehow this cartoon was able to bridge that gap and helped me be grateful for what I have rather than what I don't. Rest easy Grandma. I will always remember you through this cartoon, and I will show my children when they are born.

I'm amazed by this handmade, totally handmade, truly handmade cartoons. not one pre or post processed image by computer. parallax scrolling, wonderful colours, fluid animations. unbelievable hard work behind.
-
I just love how all three of those men took time out of their day to give this poor family a free meal. As a kid, I did not appreciate that as much as I do now.
-
Historical context: . This cartoon was made during the last years of The Great Depression in USA. The cartoon somewhat reflected what happened those times.
-
I was poor as a child and my parents did their best just like this mom. It makes me cry to see this. Also, mindblowing visuals for 1936!!

Saw this as a kid in the late 90s. Stuck with me forever. I grew up lower class and still felt awful for these kids..... Now I'm a dad and both of these babies look and act like mine....I can't stop crying. We aren't doing anywhere near as bad as I was when I was a kid and I think this cartoon helped with that.
