Java in Indonesia is the world’s most populated island, populated not just by anyone but some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and the Javanese, they love to eat. It’s not only the Javanese who inhabit this incredible island but also the Sundanese, Betawi and more. We will explore their cuisine from the narrow alley street food of Bandung to the countryside cooked meals in the Kingdom of Yogyakarta. The diversity of food on this one island is enough to have a lifetime of culinary discoveries.

Welcome to Chopstick Travel I'm Luke Martin and this is a film about 3 trips I’ve taken to Java recently to experience the islands food and heritage. Over 100 hours spent filming compiled into an extensive but certainly not exhaustive documentary about the Food Treasures of Java. We’re kicking things off with some sidewalk sate for breakfast in the Captil of West Java, Bandung.

Thank you for compiling this Javanese food video. I feel Javanese people love food and they are very friendly! I was very impressed by that Sumatran restaurant and their sweet soups, and the tempting smoked beef ribs were unforgettable! The diversity of food on Java makes people want to go there and dine, and I look forward to traveling there one day! Thanks again for sharing, really super great job! 👍😄👏

I grew up in 10 different cities in Indonesia. From my experience, whenever you hop on to other city or island in Indonesia, you will surely find culinary delicacies, distinct from the other one. The fact that we're archipelagic nation, made that distinction more profound. For instance, just for Indonesian soup alone: Rawon and soto in Surabaya; soto Bangkong in Semarang; soto Kadipiro in Jogja; soto Kudus in Kudus; soto Betawi in Jakarta; soto Padang/Garuda in Padang; Coto Makassar & Palu Basa in Makassar; and so on. The spices selection and ingredients make the variation (just for these soup) endless
