Like so many of Harbor Freight tools, they're OK but require some "homemade engineering" in order to work well and last.................Nice job!

I've watched a number of people using this tool and most have not used any release agent made for tire bead breaking. I wouldn't try breaking a bead without some kind of lube on the tire bead breaking the bead and putting the tire on the rim. Use of soap works kind of slow. There are solvent based, soap based, grease based and such that works fast and are easy on the tire and the wheel.

I like the rubber on the plate just for slippage purposes. Protection is secondary on my rusty old trailer and van rims.

Good vid; concise. Surprised by the failure of your original tire bar and your reinforcement plate on the bead breaker. I've handled many resistant beads where I had to reposition the wheel repeatedly; getting a little at a time and where sometimes the shoe keeps slipping off the bead. My 30 year old unit may have been better made back then.

I use a plastic milk bottle handle as a cover for the HF tire changer end. You slip it on like a condom.

Good stuff. I've been doing a few mods to mine too.
  • I bought real bar at hardware store and put ball bearing on end for taking tires off(no damage)
