I WOULD LOVE a video on how to organize your notes. I have so many notes of random lyrics, song ideas, song titles, etc and I have been trying to figure out how to organize them. I don't even know where to begin, so a video on this would be amazing.

Not sure this is the same thing, but 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen (JB's best, though!) describes in the lyrics what's happening in the music - i.e. "It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift" exactly matches the underlying chords.
  • Any topic on which you choose to focus regarding song writing is helpful and interesting. Keep the great content coming and thank you😀

Love the chandelier example! For the "mistake", you could also play an unexpected borrowed chord.

I'd love to see a video on organizing songwriting ideas! Paper napkins and a random assortment of notebooks aren't cutting it!
  • @suefauziyah
Yes on video on organizing songwriting notes. Thank you for all the helpful content you share.
  • I was sure you would mention “Friends in Low Places”, the melody drops way down low on the word “low”! The opposite happens in “She’s So High” by Tal Bachman.
  • @TeeJayDeluxe
Yes I'm interested in how you collect and store your ideas
  • @ReinaWanheda
YESSSSS! Would LOVE to hear how to organize thoughts, song ideas, titles.. whatever.. I’m in!

  • @kcarter352
Yes, any help with organization will be most helpful. Ideas are chaotic
  • When you misread the title as, "You're the best mistake I'll ever make," I immediately thought of one of Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt's Oblique Strategies: "Honour thy error as a hidden intention." Maybe that's the song that your subconscious really wants to write 😂 Great video about a very interesting idea, thank you.

I’ve always been great at making up Melodie’s & hooks as long as I can remember. I’d always get in trouble as a kid in school and make class mates laugh with daft songs I’d write. And when I was in a bad as a bass player I’d come to the band with a melody and we would jam it and each musician would come up with their thing till we had a song. My problem has always been joining parts together and writing serious lyrics. I got devices, SD cards etc full of Melodie’s would love to have the skills to develop them into full songs. Thanks for all your advice.

What you are describing is the paradox I start to spin my wheels...frustration. Either I begin with a super idea for the hook...but I can't think of a quality enough verse or an interesting series of verses present themselves but I can't come up with a suitable hook. Great video!, super insights. Thanks, Marty
