There might be a dead spot in the spindle motor. I suggest hooking it up to a power supply and run it like crazy for a while. It might burn off any corrosion that may be causing the dead spot. 12voltvids has covered this in some of his videos. Good luck!
  • Home entertainment equipment, awesome when it does work. I’ve tried fixing a low end DVD drive and while it does work, it doesn’t really eject properly. Usually they are reliable since very little can fail, considering your unit had issues with DVDs and only sometimes played CDs, it does seem like a laser assembly problem. Nice to hear the VCR actually works, would be good to give it a clean while you are working on it. The motor might fix itself with enough usage but it might be a bit weak if it can’t initially spin a disc up. Fortunately I have a good selection of working players so the ones I have with issues aren’t much of a problem. Nice to see a new upload!
