I put higher voltage on more toys primarily using a 0-30V bench power supply. But some toys required even more voltage to die! Used a Variac with a full bridge rectifier (input 230V) when I needed more than 30V.

In this video, I increased the voltage in smaller steps between ~5-8V to see what happens with the sound. But maybe it makes the video too long? What do you think, more toys per minute or smaller increments? Product links: As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. I like how that dj toy quickly became a hard metal dj

finally, an overvoltage toys video that goes into what happens beyond 30 volts
  • This has to been a brutal execution method in Toy Story. Being given so much energy and joy that it causes your body to fall apart; you want to scream as your joints tear to shreds, but the smile is so wonderful. Every laugh holding the rage and pain of a tortured man being condemned to tear himself apart. You shed both tears of pain and joy, laughs of joy and a broken mind, every second, the happiness outweighing the need for self-preservation, and leaving you stuck as your body burns and breaks.

I love at 6:22 how some component of the board has a chernobyl style meltdown as the amperage starts to skyrocket before it finally pops.

Would be neat to be able to see the result of the damage inside of the toys (burned motors/boards, destroyed gears...)

8:09 A nice change to see a proper package type ic instead of the usual chip on board blob ic you tend to find in toys, novelties etc.
  • I love how the duck decided to play the first note of blast processing before it inevitably dies

Excellent smoke show from the baby and the chainsaw. You know manufacturers pre-pack electrical parts with a certain amount of magic smoke which makes them work. The variac option is great for when things wont blow up on 30v but it would be fun to add a current meter to this circuit to see how many amps are drawn while the things fry. Funny that the sound chips fry above 7v and the current goes high
