In less than a week, Modi 3.0’s maiden budget will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In anticipation of a strong and enabling budget for the industry, bulls in the stock market have been pushing the Nifty 50 and Sensex to a new high rather frequently.

But there’s distress on the jobs front, the number of rich surrendering their Indian passports is likely to end at a figure higher than last. The middle class wants a break.

In the run-up to the budget, Mint has planned a series of interviews, stories, and panel discussions to ensure your voice reaches the government. Mint’s Budget 2024 coverage will culminate in an analysis of Nirmala Sitharaman’s 7th budget on budget day.

In this exclusive interview, Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Aarin Capital talks to Abhishek Singh, Deputy Editor, Mint about the industry, middle class, and startups’ expectations.

There is tax terriorism in India on middle class. You pay 34% taxes on income then 28% gst on medicine and insurances and get nothing out of that if you loss your job. Horrible

Thanks to Mohandas ji speaking up for Middle class. All the hard working private sector salary class were taken for granted.
  • @maheshtennati
this govt has decided to dump the tax paying middle class . the arrogance of govt is not going to help anyone.
  • Pai is correct. Middle class has been really dealt with in a very shoddy manner.FM has no sensitiveness towards the plight of middle class. Worst FM ever we have been saddled with.
  • Mohandas Pai sir, you have my respect. All points are bang on, and we need to tell the harsh truth to the government, they have had their chance now they have to work
  • @yogendrang5924
He is from South but asks for more jobs in the North. Refreshing to see such unbiased leadership and statesmanship. I wish our dear leaders in the North States also start looking at solving the problems for the benefit of the nation. We seem to be again headed towards jungle raj!
  • GST notices, Demand orders are Killing Small businesses. Appeal Process is Pathetic. Interest waiver announced is not justified in cases related to ITC Mismatch. Big Financial Loss for Middle-class Shopkeepers & Home Industries. TAX TERRORIST NIRMALA & MODI

Nirmala Sitaraman to middle class - Cunning smile and Thank you again this year for your contribution.
  • He is dead right. Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman is not under pressure to listen to middle class.
  • @subirghosh4935
Excellent Mr. Pai, hope the PM personally looks into it.
  • @rishi2504
Unfortunately, FM is arrogant and the PM has a different agenda.. It's a shame when you see a responsible cabinet minister shamelessly laughing at the plight of the citizens. Middle class is free to decide who to vote for, only that it doesn't acutally count.
  • @ravisr3401
Indian Govt and FM is trying it's best to "kill the goose that lays golden eggs". I don't why Nirmala has been brought back, she is pathetic: that's an understatement!
  • @nitin2779
Absolutely true. Middle Class is always ignored. Nirmala Sitaraman had failed to address issues of Middle Class. Next time BJP can loose just for ignoring all core issues of country. So far I was supporter, but from 2014 nothing has been done for middle class.
  • Last 9 years there is no change in Old tax regime for middle class, I don’t have any expectations, inflation is almost 50% in the last 9 years, no tax deductions, no increase in slab rate
  • @Ekenbabu72
PM' s advisors told he has only "sahanubhuti" for middle class tax payers. This govt mindset is like that.
  • Thanks for speaking on behalf of middle class.. This govt will soon realize how badly they treated middle class.
