La Rinconada, the closest inhabited place to the sky on Earth, where people are living above the clouds. Life on the highest habitable altitude is tough.

At this extreme altitude of 5,100 meters, the atmosphere significantly thins and the locals are living with only 50% of the usual oxygen levels. Their bodies have evolved to produce two times more blood cells than ours. On this barren land, not even a single tree can survive because of the low air pressure.

This town in the Peruvian Andes is even 300 meters higher than Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps of Europe.

Far from the modern world, it is a place where crime and danger are always nearby. People come to these harsh lands for only one reason: gold. About 50,000 people have settled here, among piles of trash, all dreaming of wealth.

Holy shit, how did you manage with 65% SpO²? When we were offroading in South America, one of us dropped to 80% when we were in the Andes and he was seriously ill because of it. We almost broke up the trip. In a hotel it hit me too when I woke up and felt like I was suffocating, but no matter how much I breathed the feeling wouldn't go away. One of the worst experiences in my life. I take my hat off to you for powering through this.

Her geçen gün belgesel dünyasında adını daha da duyurmaya devam ediyorsun. Herşeyin en iyisini hakediyorsun.

As a registered nurse, I almost had a heart attack when I saw your oxygen level. I freak out if I see anything below 90%. Even when I get really bad asthma attacks, I've never dropped to anything below 85% — I can't imagine having the percentage in the 60s. Props to you for making this journey.
  • I appreciate the in-depth research and the presenter’s enthusiasm. This video kept me hooked from start to finish. 😍

Sırf belgesel için bunca şeye katlanmak. Bu adam saygıyı hak ediyor.

altitude sickness is the worst feeling in the world. imagine having zero energy to do anything but writhe in agony, a severe headache that wont go away, nausea that wont go away, shortness of breath, no appetite, high blood pressure, being tired but unable to sleep due to these symptoms persisting for 12-24 hours until you acclimatize and get a good meal in you. you truly feel like you are dying because you are.

  • I got Pneumonia a few years ago and after weeks of getting sick, coughing, and bordering on what felt like passing out for days I went to the ER and got my Oxygen checked, and I was sitting around 67%. They didnt let me leave and immediately put me on oxygen, ended up stuck with forced oxygen for a couple days. Its crazy being around 65%, moving and trying to do anything is so exhausting and difficult. Props for going to this place and putting yourselves through this to document and show people this part of world.

This place is insane. I had no idea places like this existed. I wouldn't have survived that altitude, even for a short visit. Just amazing. Thanks for this interesting video!
