This video should quickly show you how to make a puzzle box that is opened using centripetal force.
It is made using wood, glue, and metal dowels.
This project should take about 4 hours.

Maybe you could drill out bigger chambers from the outside where the pins are going, use nails instead of wire (or whatever you used in the video) so they cant fall in and use veneer or plywood or something like that to cover it up. Great video, I'll try to make one of these myself, greetings from Austria!
  • An idea Referring to not losing the pins if you make the back side of the pin hole about an 1/8" depth. just a lil larger circumference than the pin channel and make your pins from finishing nails with the tiny round head it will act as a stopper but still allow movement of the pins Thx for the video...

cut the triangle in half make a slot keep the head on the nails

The holes in the lid are half the length of the pins. Holes in the box are slightly more than the length of the pins. This way the pins can slide into the larger holes to let the box open and in both holes to lock it.

To keep the pins from falling out you can use a nail with a wide head and narrower shaft drill from the backside a hole wide enough for the head but not all the way through. Then finish the hole with a smaller bit for the shaft of the nail. Then plug the hole from the backside. The nail can then slide back and forth but can't fall out. Also don't listen to Bruno just because it is obvious it is a box and what the lid is does not mean that it is not a puzzle box

I know its obvious what is supposed to be opened the trick is how to open it. I knew I wasn't quite good enough to make a box that could be disguised as a book or something so I just didn't try to hide it at all. I will be making a more subtle puzzle box soon.

Oh wow I forgot that. The nails (pins) are put in each of the 4 holes in the box. These line up with the holes in the corner pieces that are glued to the lid.

Maybe add a small lip to the pins on each end so they work kinda like washers this may work im going to build this box and see if it works is so ill make a video and email you
  • @DoNotPushHere
I made something similar but when placing the nails I managed to cut the hole lenghtwise to be able to insert them without cutting the head, so they didn't fall when the box was open. Hope that helps :)
  • wood seems to be MDF. where cut nails were fixed not clear in video. looks like CHALIE CHPLIN MOVIE.

Look at grand illusions video(s) on "trick opening boxes" he has one very similar and with an interesting design.

Thanks for the idea. I have a solution for your pin problem. I will start building one myself this week, if I'm finished I will send you my video. Maybe it is helpful...
  • Super cool video! If you like that video maybe visit the channel Walker and Emmy do everything To see great how to's and ideas. Loved this video though.
  • This time I will use Woodprix instructions to make it easy with my own hands.
  • @shastakennmpx17
I'll make it myself. Just got instructions from WoodPrix website and I'm ready to do it :D
