Do you take best by dates as a suggestion or a sign to throw a product away?

Fridge temp makes ALL the difference. 40 is the max temperature and the chicken can be good up to 4 days but at 35, it will be good for a week or longer so long as it was refrigerated when you get home. As with most things, your eyes and nose will tell you if something is edible. A week old. Chicken can be turned into chicken soup, killing off any potential pathogens and giving you meals for another 4 days or longer if you subsequently bring it back up to temperature. 165 kills all pathogens though it won't bring back good flavor or eliminate a toxin that might have been formed if you let food go bad.

Sadly i used to never really paid attention to how long food has been kept out and just eat them. I used to eat chinese food days later, that were kept in the microwave. I would get sick sometimes but didn't really understand why at the time. lol I'm getting better at fridging food and consuming them within a day, if possible. Though i still forget from time to time.
