Suburban Florida Back Yard Food Forest Tour

Published 2024-07-22
In this video I am visiting my mom in her Florida backyard food forest. This food forest is situated on less than a quarter acre, but that hasn't stopped us from growing an abundance of food and medicinal herbs. This tropical food forest features mulberry, bananas, multiple varieties of figs, passion fruit, persimmon, ginger, turmeric, katuk, and many more perennials. However, getting to this point of abundance came with a set of challenges that we had to overcome. The biggest challenge that we faced was constant flooding since this property is located at sea level. In this video I will share how we were able to divert the water away from our plants and use the abundance of water to our advantage. I will also share some of the permaculture practices we adopted to keep our food forest thriving without the use of chemicals.

Just discovered your channel. I look forward to seeing more! I just completed one year of attempting to garden in Florida and I've learned more from a couple of your videos than any other. One day I'll have a Florida Forever Food Forest!

Hey Christina Always nice to see you. Your mom should be a yt star in her own right. What a garden. Would have been nice to "meet" her. Thanks for the tour.
  • I am inspired. I have such a small yard. You have definitely encouraged me. I am in Orlando too.
  • I've never seen wormwood. Only heard of it biblically lol. Looks a lot like parsley
