I have been lucky enough to get to see this ship in person myself and it is truly breathtaking. It would be an accomplishment today with modern tools, let alone over a thousand years ago.

Also for those of you looking for sources about viking tattoos, these are likely based on the writings of Ahmad ibn Fadlan, who lived among the Volga vikings who he reported as 'marked head to toe'.

Facts, facts and more facts. I like that they don’t pick a side but are open to different vectors.

Could it be that the older lady( perhaps a wise woman) chose the burial place herself? At any rate it is a wonderful documentary. Thank you for the journey back in time. USA 😊

War paint terrified their enemies. Most warriors used paint and ink during fights

What's intriguing is the story my grandmother told me as a child that was passed down from our ancestors. The Queen, the family scandal, how we/why we was forced to flee to America. Ironically Erik Wahlgren was destined to the runestone. I gets chills in my spine knowing that my ancestor had the name Olaf Nelson Wahlgren. For whatever reason my ancestors continued to name their children after Olaf Nelson Wahlgren. After the murder of the Queen when my entire family fled over all the many many years our surname Wahlgren has been changed in the spelling of the name but not all was changed. I believe it was because of confusion of language for the most part and so over time the spelling in some situations had changed. I do know that I am also blood to the Walgreens pharmacy founder. I'm not sure if he knew the story of our ancestors but I'd like to think his grandparents would have told him the story of how we came to America. I don't know the entire story myself. After so many years I'm sure lots of details are lost or even misinformed. I wish I could talk to others in my family who also heard from family stories about our past.

Brilliant, fascinating, and a well thought out story and presentation of this wonderful gift.

I wish I had seen this documentary before I had the chance to visit the ship. I would have looked at it with a different understanding of what I was seeing

the guy that excavated. It did a good job but the person that found it and the people that are buried are the ones that matter. 27:58

I am a history lover. Even as a young girl I loved history. Its amazing that these two women were as old as they. Life was hard and people didn't live that long. She could have been revered for her wisdom. I expect that in the far future our lives will be scrutinized by archaeologists and speculations will be made. Isn't it fascinating the full circle that could and will happen?

This is tied to my family.

Perhaps these powerful women chose this particular place to enter the after life. Or perhaps this was the actual place of their deaths. Whatever the reason it is a stunning thing to behold.

It's one of the most important find for most people who are we ended from those Viking warriors. That's most people from England and Ireland. And now Americans.

Thank you.
