When you read about "insider tips in Italy", it is often just a rhetorical formula, because such places are becoming increasingly rare. Pacentro is probably one of the last of its kind. It is no coincidence that it belongs to the association "I borghi più belli d'Italia" (The most beautiful villages in Italy), which recognizes the less well-known but no less beautiful and interesting small villages and towns in Italy .

The first thing that strikes the visitor is the idyllic location on a mountainside and the mighty castle from the 14th century, with the imposing mountain range of Monte Amaro in the Hitergrund. Some travel guides also refer to Pacentro as the “picturesque town of Abruzzo”, which is no exaggeration. Pacentro is small and so you can easily explore this town in a short time.
Pacentro is an Italian municipality in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo region and borders directly on the province of Pescara.
According to legend, the village with its almost 1,100 inhabitants goes back to the Trojan hero Pacinus. After he left Aeneas on the banks of the Tiber, he came to the area and founded what is now Pacentro there. By the way, the singer Madonna also comes from this medieval mountain village, which is of course something people in Abruzzo are particularly proud of.
