Congratulations to the people who honored Sully. Dogs don't need a lot of training. They need love and caring and each one will develop a bond and provide so much more loyalty, and love, and protection than just companionship. I adopted a two year old mix breed dog 2 years ago. I live in a high rise apartment building in a large city and in the night, after midnight I and McBride go out to distribute food and water for feral cats and raccoons and possums, what ever hungry stranger happens by. McBride was behind me watching my back, although I didn't realize it until he started going off like a Nazi dog and jerked my arm back as he reached the end of his 16 ft. leash. Even as I stood he didn't back off continuing to growl and bark at a man now standing on the second level of a fire escape to which he had retreated to escape McBride. I called McBride back and he immediately returned to sit by my side. I pulled my pepper spray out of my pocket and told the man to get down and get gone and he did, giving a still alert McBride a wide birth. I don't know what his intentions were. He could have been taking a short cut. But McBride considered him nefarious and made his own decision to protect the person upon whose bed he slept and who rewarded him with bacon strips. Did someone train and then surrender him to a shelter? I'll never know. Lest you think he's vicious the elderly tenants of my building love him and call him by name. I had to train him not to jump up in happiness for fear of broken hips, even though everyone said, he's alright. Some call him Baby Dog for his affectionate nature and gift him with hard boiled eggs or tacos, and an occasional piece of donut or apple. Please people, when you see an animal in need help it out. Every cat is a secret clown or ballerina, every possum will pause and look at you with secret eyes, every raccoon will, with time, stroke you hand with velvet black fingers, and every dog will be your hero when treated with dignity and love. (Sleeping with you may speed the process.) Thank you.

Hey it's that dog that landed that plane in the Hudson River.

I understand the sentiment behind it, but that dog has no idea who he was serving or whether he has a statue made in his honor or not.
