Zeto interviewed and got the job before Nicholson grabbed Holland. Pretend Nicholson didn't do that and call Zeto, "congrats! You got the job;"
  • All these comments about a "Old Boys Club" is getting sickening. How many of our last few GM's haven't had any historical ties with this franchise? Steve Tambellini never played in Edmonton. Peter Chiarelli was first in Ottawa then Boston. Then Ken Holland was from Detroit as GM with no NHL games played and he played in the WHL for the Medicine Hat Tigers. How has that worked out for us? The criteria should be A person with Historical ties with the Oilers who has a Vested Interest in this teams well being & success. I know Mark Hunter fulfill's a lot of boxes for a lot of fans yet there were probably a couple of reasons he was passed over for the GM's job of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Think about that. Did he play in Toronto? Does his ownership of the London Knights bring up any issues? How about his Undivided Attention & Focus on the Oilers & not the possible distraction of loyalties, focus etcetera. There's a reason why Brent Sutter never accepted a NHL management or coaching position. Look at Patrick Roy first with Colorado now in Long Island with the Islanders, he recognized that he had to hand over the control of the Quebec Remparts in order to do the Islanders. If another outside candidate is considered the best one available is no doubt Mark Hunter. Yet i think it prudent to hire someone with Historical ties, Vested or Invested personally heavily in the success of this franchise. Keith Gretzky is my first choice, Bill Scott, Brad Holland, Kalle Larsson and ex players like Shaun Horcoff, Doug Weight, Mark Messier,Paul Coffey and long shot dark horse candidate Fernando Pisiani. Pisiani is recent entry in the apprenticeship process yet with his NHL experience, work with minor hockey and University of Alberta and now working in his minor league position he was a very intelligent player & is very intelligent candidate imo. We have a rookie coach in Kris Knoblauch. Keith Gretzky would be familiar with ALL the players & personnel in the Oilers organization & would be a seemless fit & would be able to hit the ground running imo. Scott the capologist is a bit of a mystery to me yet he might be more qualified than any one of us realizes. Horcoff is another favorite of mine. Yet Detroit would need to grant Edmonton permission to go that route. Same with Doug Weight San Jose would have to grant permission.
