The crown jewel of the solar system: Holy Terra!

John Williams: Hello there. Gustav Holst: John Williams. You are a talented one...
  • I love how you get aspects of all of the original songs that Holst made. Since, ya know, the songs originated from Earth. This is really good. And it sounds just like actual Holst music

Planet Earth, so underrated that originally Holst didn't include her in the original suite. In our hectic life we perceive the reality like we lived on a piece of "terrain". But in the reality, we are a species kindly hosted on the most precious and important of all planets we do know. I love how the composer mixed different moods and instruments here, and the ending reminds me that as a "thank you" we need to care about our great host and express our gratitude, as in this wonderful piece of music.

This is a precision-fit addition to the suite, which I always felt was incomplete without all the planets. Thanks for completing it!

When I first saw this, as several others have stated below, I went "Oh no, this is going to be really bad isn't it?". Then to my surprise it turns out to be a wonderful piece of music. You have suceeded at doing something I did not think possible. You have captured the feel of Earth all the while remaining loyal to the style and 'sound' of Holst. If this were inserted into a concert or cd of the Planets and I had never heard it before, I would have been convinced this was Holst.

It took me way too long to realize that this wasn’t holst
  • I've had a "first edition" Columbia pressing ( 78 RPM ) of Holst' 1926 recording of The Planets for amost 40 years . -- One of my true favorites. When I saw your "Earth", I said " Oh no, Another one of these contemporary composers trying to out-do one of the great masters." BUT , Apon listening to your composition, I must say that you've done a most commendable job in capturing the tonal essence of Holsts' original. Best of luck to you.
  • Whoever composed this had a perfect opportunity to rickroll us

I love the whole piece, but especially 5:11-6:02 is so beautifully mysterious and 7:15-8:12 hit me right in the feels. Truly amazing, might be my favorite 21st century classical piece.

Excellent! I'll boldly assert that Holst would have been delighted. With the addition of this movement and the Pluto movement by Matthews, the suite is finally complete. I don't care what anyone else says.

Excellent Clement !!! A superb addition to Holst's Planet Suite and Holst would have been proud of you. It wonderfully conveys life on our Earth busy with life, milling around with all their trials and tribulations. Awesome !!! :)
  • @TBStudios91
That is spot on! Compliments! I was just listening to the Planets again and did not remember Earth was there, only when I started looking at the comments I realised it wasn't from the original suite. Bravo!
  • Honestly, I was skeptic of this arrangement at first glance, but it beyond exceeded my expectations. Well done!

The winner of a literal "Miss Universe" contest: the planet Earth in her entirety, and all residing upon her.

Earth is unique and hard to describe in a single piece of music, because you have snow, rain, summer heat, oceans, clouds, mountains, mystery, discovery, dance, culture, cities, plains, and so much more. There are billions of stories to be told.
