TIL: 1. The French cannot pronounce “Squirrel.” 2. I love the French.

I like how these people can actually speak English but they just can’t say these words
  • As a native English speaker who has studied French, I think “choir” looks like a French word, and I can’t blame them for pronouncing it the way they did. I’m surprised they didn’t all comment on how the spellings of English words often seem to have no relation to their pronunciation. By the way, the last word is spelled wrong, at least on the screen. There is only one “h” in the word “psychotomimetic.”

As japanese, i get very nervous when i speak English because because the structure and pronunciation of English is completely different from that of Japanese. but i learned that nobody can speak their second language perfectly thanks to this video!

I have so much respect for the French people. As an American visiting overseas, I did my very best to learn, speak, and respect their beautiful language, but they would go above and beyond if I struggled (and genuinely politely, with no snarky backhandedness) usually help out by speaking with me in English afterwards, while still encouraging me in a positive way to continue learning French. I have nothing but nice things to say about the people I met there.🙂

I think they did a great job. They also have a great sense of humour.

These obviously aren’t French people, as I have learned over the years, all real French people are mime chefs who love baguettes and wine and have taken in an extremely intelligent rat.

When the young lady said “we’ll they remove syllables” she was on point lol
  • As someone who has spoken French and English their whole life i am proud

To be fair, most Americans can’t even say brewery Edit: I was being facetious, everyone. I know that people can say the word brewery, it’s just a difficult word to say for some of us Edit 2: I can guarantee that half of the people who see this comment will think they can say brewery only to actually say brurri (I was one of them)
  • I think the most difficult part of learning French is the fact that a lot of the letters or words are silent, which happens in English just not as much😅French is so much fun to learn though! I imagine learning English to suck

I have been to France many times and my good buddy lives in Lyon. The French are very friendly towards foreigners. I always enjoy my time there.

French: how do you say bonjour American: banjo

English is my second language. Grammatically. It’s quite easy. Phonetically, it makes no fucking sense.
  • So many of them were so nervous, and I just wish that I could have been there to cheer them on. Most of them were so close! Really great attempts, and obviously way better than most Americans trying to speak French
  • It’s always fun to see which English words are hardest for others
