On The Way to Eldora, Small Town America Tops the Charts

Published 2022-07-22
Auto racing and small town America have always been connected for me. Traveling through small towns across the midwest and east was often the best route to your next race track. While I fell in love with racing, the same happened for me in small town America...the journey on the way. Join me, the History Mystery Man, for another small town adventure, this one on the way to world-famous Eldora Speedway...Beautiful New Bremen and Fort Loramie, Ohio on my radar...enjoy, and thanks for your support! #HistoryMysteryMan #EldoraSpeedway #TonyStewart #SmallTownAmerica #NewBremen #FortLoramie

Don, I keep thinking you can't top the last videos, but you do. ...and did with this one! Marvelously done. Your excitement is obvious. I'm going to watch it again later this evening. Jen will want to view it. We are VERY seriously thinking of moving to one of these small towns in NW Ohio. My Dad's side of the family is from Ottawa and Glandorf in Putnam County. My 2nd cousin Bill is Police Chief in Kalida. My Grandma was a school teacher in Ottawa for 40 years. What's funny is a group of race fans parked next to me at Atomic at the last Allstar Race....you were there. They were from Ottawa!! Tailgated with them for awhile. Ran into them again at the Doty WOO race. Maybe someday you'll do a video from Ottawa and next door Glandorf. Small clean, nice people towns. Be sure then to drive down East 3rd street in Ottawa. That's where my Grandparents lived. Tree lined with an original brick road from way back when. Like you, we almost always drive thru these towns on our way to Eldora. In fact, typically we stop off at Moeller Brew Barn in Maria Stein. Few beers of course. We met the owner Nick and his family on one of our bike adventures in a nearby local park. Now we always talk to him during our visits. I'm so jeaous you got to watch a race at New Bremen! That's so cool. Luckily I did get to see the track before they destroyed it. Again, this video hit a note with me Don. I get the same feeling you do traveling through this area. I'm happy you got a blue sky day. All the buildings popped in the sun as you panned around. Gorgeous. Sometimes I think we were cut out of the same mold. Really appreciate your effort on this video.

Yes sir, one certainly misses out if you just jump on the interstate and get to where you gotta go ! Too often it's all about the destination when the journey can be full of memories as well! Life has to be about the journey, otherwise we're just hurrying to the end . You never disappoint with your videos! Thanks again for sharing the journey!
  • The ride from Columbus to Eldora is half the fun! I take a different back road route every time.

HMM, Very nice capture of Middle Americana. Beautiful city, buildings."They dont make em like this anymore"! I am like you. Even when i was young starting to go to auto races,,farther and farther away from home base. I was always gawking going down the road looking at cool old buildings and houses as they went by. This was as much fun to me,,as actually being at the races that night . Always get a kick out of a certain area sort of has 'standards' for what they like ,,go two hours down the road,,there is something unique to that area that is somewhat a 'standard' . Thanks again.

I'm not an auto racing fellow; however, I am a history fan. I'm fortunate to be recently retired and I really enjoy traveling through Ohio's small towns. This young fellow has given me a new destination to visit. To the author, visit Grand Rapids, Ohio one day. It will be one of your favorites, it sure is one of mine. Thanks for sharing.
  • I love these videos as much of the race videos. All of the little towns around that area are really nice. Cheapest gas and fuel on my whole Kings Royal trip was in St. Henry. I will plan my fuel stop accordingly on my 4 Crown trip.
