this is actually a dark video and genealogy can reveal a lot of dark truths. as they point out and as most americans know, the native american and african ancestry shared by keith and ned is almost definitely a product of colonial violence and slavery. what people might not know is that japan at a time occupied both china and korea, which could (similarly darkly) explain eugene’s ancestry

Eugene: has significant amounts of Chinese and Japanese ancestry from 100 - 200 years ago when his family told him he was 100% Korean. Me, having read about what was happening in Korea around that time:

It was really nice that Zack reaffirmed to Eugene that his culture and upbringing as Korean is still valid and his identity, despite his DNA not being entirely Korean cause you could tell that caused maybe a bit of upset for him

My mom is a genealogist. These are my facts: you inherit exactly 50% from mom and 50% from dad. BUT, which 50% of your mom's DNA you inherit is a random composition, meaning you could theoretically have 50% from your mom's mom and 0% from your mom's dad. Your mom, however, always passes 50%. Hope it's understandable. That's why you don't always receive 25% from a grandparent. So ned's grandparent may have been 100% Italian, but he just didn't catch all of his grandparent's DNA.

Eugene needs to remember in WWII both China and Japan had there army there. So not really a shock he had some one from Japan in his family tree.
