Sweet cat! I've been nervous about putting one of these in. You make it look easy. Thanks!

A couple of thoughts to offer of how I did our installation … 1. Take the door off (pop out the hinge pins if you can, or unscrew the hinges if you have to) and work it as it lays on top of a set of padded saw horses. Padding to protect the finish / paint. It is MUCH easier to work that way! 😁 2. Instead of cutting a hole to fit the cat door itself, construct a frame out of wood the same thickness as the widest part of the door you are cutting into. The outside of the frame needs to be a bit larger than the cat door frame to look right. Then install the cat door into that. Installing the wooden frame and then caulking and painting to match the door makes the installation look a LOT better. Plus, if you have a door that is hollow or has a foam-filled core, it prevents the cat door from warping the sides as you screw it together. If the door is finished wood (stained & lacquered / polyurethane) instead of being painted, you can either use a wood finished to match (this requires more precise work to fit it in, but cutting a straight line for each side of the frame is much easier than cutting a curved line to fit the cat door itself). Lastly, with the frame idea, even in a finished wood door would look good with a painted and carefully caulked frame for mounting the cat door into compared to the bare cat door itself, IMHO. Hope this helps. Great content! Keep up the good work!!

We lived out of town and our neighbor who had 5 cats and he put one of these in a door by the kitchen. One time he walked into the kitchen and there was a racoon munching at the cat food. They also make these door that need a microchip that can only be opened by the owners pets collar
