Taylor Cavanaugh's life is a rollercoaster of highs and lows that would put most action movies to shame. This San Diego kid dreamed of becoming a Navy SEAL from age seven, but his path was far from straightforward. Despite multiple arrests, fights with police, and faced several years in prison!

Taylor somehow made it into the elite SEALs. But the drama didn't stop there. After getting kicked out for steroid use, he hit rock bottom, living in his car. In a twist no one saw coming, Taylor then became the first - and so far only - former Navy SEAL to enlist in the French Foreign Legion.

This week's Urban Valor episode pulls no punches, diving into Taylor's wild ride from troublemaker to elite warrior to homeless vet, and finally to a groundbreaking role in another legendary fighting force. It's a raw, real-life tale of grit, mistakes, and unexpected comebacks that you won't want to miss.

"You cannot get healthy in the same place that makes you sick"..wow, words to live by. Keep it up.
  • "Action alleviates anxiety"...probably one of the most useful, powerful, and profound statements I've ever heard.

This is the first interview video in YEARS that I actually sat all the way through THE FIRST TIME.
  • My cousin did 30 years in the legion. Disappeared when he was 19, the French embassy wouldn't tell his parents anything, then sent them a postcard from Corsica after six months. Travelled around the world, became an instructor, ended up being busted from sergeant to corporal for sleeping with his CO's wife. Now retired in the French countryside on a full pension.

The dude both makes me feel inspired and thankful that My parents protected me from some of the struggles he had.

The man is a gifted communicator/storyteller. Itā€™s such a shame he was missing a rudder for direction.

This guy has the energy and focus of a housefly trying to get through a pane of glass.
  • The amount he got away with before he was held accountable in the seals was insane, just goes to show.

Man, Sept 11, 2014 was the day I came home from my last combat tour in Afghanistan, 3 weeks later I was in jail for DUI and Assault charges on the night of my unitsā€™ military ball in celebration of our successes in combat. Celebrations like you said, are the moments we self-sabotage. Thanks to God-Almighty and senior leaders who looked out for me the Army didnā€™t kick me out and Iā€™m retiring in a few months.

Taylor might have messed up some stuff, but heā€™s a wealth of knowledge. Nobody is better suited to teach than someone whoā€™s tried and failed and tried and failed and is still standing on their feet.

"You're either an asset or a liability" That one hit hard. I'll never forget it again! Incredible story and so inspirational!

If he hasn't done it already, this guy is a serious TED Talk waiting to happen. He should be doing motivational speaking all over the world. His story is straight up crazy. A literal roller coaster of emotions and experiences.
  • Honestly,..... these chaotic personality types are the very ones the US military adore. They're typically single, insanely motivated, focused, and blindly loyal. They make great war fighters. What can I say.
  • Bro I went in the legion 2016. Yes running, yes humility pie, yes being in your 30s with a bunch of 18 russophone. I was living in my car in VA and I said screw it and went to the legion
  • @Shamino1
Ran away from his obligation to the USA before it was complete, broke a mans face and never paid restitution, ran away to the FFL and then ran away FROM the FFL before completing his contract- this is a man who has never finished a single thing he signed up for and has never fulfilled a single obligation he volunteered for. Yet here he is, getting lots and praise and accolades, despite failing to fulfill his oath in not one, but two countries.
