► ABOUT THIS HIKE
In January 2024 I hiked 200 kilometers in the heart of the Southern Alps on the South Island of New Zealand. I combined several routes into a continuous 7-day route, including the Cascade Saddle Route, Rees-Dart, Earnslaw Burn, Routeburn and Greenstone-Caples.

Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide (www.thatch.co/guide/eu0dwzvv7u3q) to explore this custom route. The guide has a flexible 7-14 day itinerary split into 6 stages. It explains everything you need to know: how to get there, where to camp, where to stay in huts, when to go, the weather, and much more. Included are Custom Google Maps and GPX files.

This is an ambient film without dialog.

Harmen is one of a kind guy. I'm software engineer and every day I put one of his videos on one screen and enjoying it while working. I can't count how many times I watched your videos, it never bothers me to play it again. So basically I watched multiple times each video and I will continue with that. I'm so thankful to you because the way you presenting it to us it's just unique and nobody is even close to you(Only Craig Adams I can put in the same basket with you). Others? Nobody is even close to you my guy I repeat that again. Thank you sir and God bless you!

I'm 53 years old and have spent my most of my life giving everything to my family with no regrets. For the last year or so I've found hiking and starting recording my adventures on youtube for a bit of history for my children and grandchildren. Your channel had inspired me to remember the most important bits. They don't need words. You are an artist and I'm inspired!

The mountains - the waterfalls - the campsite next to the waterfall - the birds - the glacier - everything was just perfect
  • This is the ONLY YT channel that deserves to be air-played on the TV vs your phone

This is the most highest effort hiking video I've ever seen. The quality, the sounds, the cinematography are absolutely gorgeous. Really glad I found this video!
  • Dear Harmen, I'm Richard from Germany. You made a gigantic good movie about your track on the South Island of New Zealand. Your superb pictures, editing and music fit so sensitively to the theatricality of this landscape. You have honestly reproduced the relationship, human nature: the little man in an overpowering nature. I've enjoyed every moment of your movie. And I remembered when I hiked the Routeburn Track myself in 1988. Maybe, who knows, one day I will come to New Zealand again to feel this wild untamed landscape. Thank you very, very much for this film.

Dude, you gotta win some awards for this stuff. This is a new level.

Apart from repeating that all Harmen's videos are stunning movies, with beautiful cinematography and editing skills, what can I say? This time we get to see Harmen as adventurous as ever, and with a humorous twist: the hilarious Kea Birds 🤣🤣 New Zealand really is my dream country. What a pity it's so far away... Keep on making us dream with your wonderful videos and thank you Harmen!

Your cinematography is my trail Bible!!! Always pray for you and the viewers. Stay blessed ❤

The curious bird trying to poke your camera lens was so hilarious!! My mind feels peaceful while watching your movies and I feel very good that you overcome lots of difficult routes and return safe! Be careful out there! Always enjoy your beautiful movies!!!
  • I really felt the experience in this one. The cuts on your legs, the bugs, the wind, the cold. I felt the human side of this one more than just the nature.

Harmen, my man. Not too much goodies for us mere mortals. The John Muir Trail Video was such an epic piece of art. I keep watching it over and over again. Or just enjoy the audio world of it while doing something else.
  • @loretalaus5083
Wild! Birds, bushwhacking, waterfalls, greenery...Great video! Stay safe, Harmen and thanks for bringing us on your hikes!
  • @ervinslens
This is one of your best videos so far! Absolutely fantastic work! Music selection, audio recording, drone footage, composition of your camera, and overall atmosphere of the scenes is just amazing. Masterpiece!!!
  • @j.loganhill
The shot at 7:05... holy moly. May literally be the best shot I've ever seen on a YouTube video. Harmen has somehow outdone himself again. The whole video is amazing.
  • @Travelonext
You have inspired me to create videos from Himalayas. I am a small content creator from Everest region. I have watched all of your videos. Much love and namaste 🙏🇳🇵
  • @sandrader2889
Traveling the world with Harmen, thanks for showing all the beauty on our planet!
  • @lukerobinson700
The sense of scale you're able to convey is one of the best parts of your work, I know it must be cumbersome to have to walk back to retrieve your camera equipment so often, but it is a pleasure to watch, thank you!
