How Good is 7 Foot 9 And World's Tallest College Basketball Player Olivier Rioux Really?

Olivier Rioux is a high school basketball player that is committed to The University of Florida. He just graduated from IMG Academy and has been playing international basketball with Team Canada. But is Olivier actually good or is he just an extremely tall person that plays basketball? #nba #basketball #nbanews #fiba #teamcanada #olivierrioux #floridagators

"... smaller guys like Wembanyama and Holmgrem" Now that's something I didn't thought I'd hear
  • @haqctrix
Team canada got 7'4" zach edey at power forward and oliver rioux 7'9" at center

These YT feeds keep cracking me up. Each time there's an even taller player involved that I'd never heard of before. The next one will be about some 8'0" rising star.
  • @futurehofer1564
honestly, usually guys this tall are way skinnier and move way slower, he gotta focus on staying healthy and he can be a great player
  • @stevelau7694
Zach edey has already proven that a giant can make consistent year to year improvement so there's definitely a chance with this guy
  • @Drillbitayler
He moves extremely well for his size and has a great frame. His shot looks smooth also. I think he could easily develope into an NBA level talent. He'll need 4 years in college for sure though.
  • what scary is that he looks pretty normal for that height. most guys' that tall always look a bit wonky or unstable.
  • @noosurprises
It's not that wemby, chet, and porzingis are "just short enough" to still be mobile, it's that they are exceptionally mobile for their heights, which is why they're so good
  • @justbuzzed8313
He is the first to perfect the standing windmill dunk...🙂👍🏻
  • @Epicstivity
I got one word for him- plyometrics...! He should SOLELY be focused on coordination, running and jumping. At that size if he can just move more than a stiff he would be dominant.
  • I can’t even create him on 2k with the max being 7”7 he’s Guinness Book of world record type of tall😂😂😂
  • This dude actually has a stolid frame at over 7 foot. He could be unstoppable if he focused on his strength
  • @Jeromeots
This just makes you appreciate how coordinated and well rounded Wemby is. Wemby is legit just a 6’2 guy that got stretched out

6:17 "even smaller guys like wembanyama and chet holmgren" 💀
  • @twood023
I’m rooting for him to improve to NBA caliber.
  • I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American and male. All of this shows you the perspective I am writing from. He looks pretty good. At 7'9", he can actually take dribbles, and do the step step dunk. Take someone from my era, Dale Davis, who was "only" 6'10", and is one NBA player who could not get the ball on a fast break, and do a simple bounce bounce step step dunk. Ervin Johnson (of the Sonics and Nuggets) also couldn't do this. However, Rioux looks light, and like he would be pushed around by Shaquille O'Neal. BUT, in the NBA in 2024, we don't have Shaq, Hakeem Olajuwon. In fact, even the best power forwards and centers are Stretch 4's and 5's. He's certainly intriguing. What I really like about him, is that while he's a good shot blocker and dunker, he NEVER talks trash. I really like and respect skilled athletes, who let their game speak for itself, without braggodocio. I really wish him well.

IMG Academy is a high school for future pro sports players. Rioux is playing back up big because that is his most likely pro out come. Same for Zack Edey at IMG, but now he's a starter. Rioux is being drilled in how to shoot the outside jumper in practice. Not in games yet. Hopefully at Florida he'll be shooting from 15 feet.
  • @MegaMalfurion
lol looks like me dunking on my nerf hoop, he literally doesn't have to jump
  • @MrPatagonianFox
If he focuses on improving his overall athleticism, and developing the skills NBA big men need he should be successful. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make the NBA or the Europa League.
