ENGL E530 vs Plugin Comparison [Mercuriall // STL // Line 6 // Plugin Alliance]

E530 was recorded through a Friedman BE100 Power amp.

Mercuriall and STL were made recorded through a NAM model of the BE100 poweramp chain.

With the Brainworx/PA Savage 120, its possible to bypass the built in poweramp, but it seemed to get closer using the included poweramp (even though it does sound different).

Could have included TSE and Amplitube, but they're both pretty old and I don't know their input calibrations.

IR is BL speaker from my CALI 2002 pack: mirrorprofiles.myshopify.com/products/cali-os-2002…

0:48 the chugs are the only place where the real one is better than all of them. They all sounded amazing with the Mercurial and Savage being the closest to me. Thank you for the video. The playing is great as well.

Mercuriall the winner. I really need to actually check out their stuff, seems to always be solid in shoot outs.

This is one of my favorite preamps, ENGL has its own sound in their products, E530 is not expensive and sound really good on cleans and high gain, i did buy your Cali pack, awesome job there mate, really high quality, i would pay a NAM pack if you do some captures from the E530 some day, i love mercuriall but it has a harsh frec it didn't nail correctly only the real deal, still pretty pretty close.

The original sounds great, warm but tight. Mercuriall comes close, but is flatter and more compressed. Line 6 is a Engl Fireball and Plugin Alliance a Engl Savage, completely different amps, so its expected that these two are the least similar. E530 and Savage are great when you want it tight and Fireball when you want it thick and nasty. There is also Nembrini Hardball which is a Engl Powerball but it is even fatter and darker in my experience.

Mercuriall sounds the closet to the real deal.

Original: tightest sound, cuts through the mix best 1. Mercuriall: probably the closest one in terms of character, but a little bit more blurry and less articulate, and that’s especially apparent in the mix 2. STL: very flat sounding plugin, no punch at all, character of the sound is somewhat reminiscent of the original, personally would not use this plugin 3. Plugin alliance: completely different character from the original, sounds nothing alike. Not the worst sounding in the mix 4. Line 6: in the mix sounds kind of similar to the original, but even further from it than STL. In terms of everything else just bad: very slouchy, empty sounding
