The one thing I always tell people when embarking on The Expanse is, you will be almost certainly have loads and loads questions and even at times be a little confused. The show will not spoon feed you answers right away. Some things being set up now won't bear fruit for many many many episodes, but, eventually everything will come together as all the parts fall into place. Enjoy =)

YES! This series is simply OUTSTANDING! Don’t let the slow burn turn you off; this show features some of the most realistic, intriguing, and epic sci-fi you’ll find out there.

Watching people react to The Expanse has enhanced my enjoyment of the show. It has (without a shadow of a doubt) become my favorited show EVER! The only bad thing about The Expanse is that it might never be surpassed (this is based on how lazy the writing has been in almost every Science Fiction show I've seen over last few years). The Expanse in a gem that needs to be appreciated for it's very high standards in writing, logic and production!
  • @cyphern
"Martians" is a perfectly valid in-universe way to refer to the humans that live on mars. Another term is "dusters", though that one is derogatory.

The expanse is by far the best sci-fi franchise ever and definitely one of the best series ever in my opinion. The authors who worked on the books and the series are really amazing people and the cast along with the acting is beyond perfect. The Expanse is one of those shows that just keeps getting better each episode and each season. Glad to see you getting into it!

Regarding Miller being a traitor to his people: he is a belter, but he works for Star Helix, which is an Earth corporation.

The way the Ceres narration at the beginning shifts to the protester's diegetic speech at the beginning is the perfect way to do an exposition dump. It feels organic to the setting and it's not forced or artificial at all. Beyond the content of the speech itself, the drone's little tour of Ceres, the speaker, the setting, and the reactions all carry even more meaning and information. Every time I rewatch it, I gain even more appreciation for just how nuanced it is.

I saw a couple of reactors watching this show and a few other channels recommend it, I started watching it a couple weeks ago and just started season 5 now, I’m ashamed to have slept on the best sci-fi I’ve seen in years for the last half-decade, you’re in for an absolute ride!

Yay! The expanse is top tier television. The best written show on television

The whole thing is meant to be a mystery, the pieces will fall into place with time, and the picture will emerge. Answers ARE coming, and the way the stories intertwine is brilliant story telling. Alot of it isn't spoonfed, and the little details really paint a picture. things like the bird flying weirdly because of the low gravity on Ceres, or seeing Julie desperately drink the tiny drop of water, and the next scene you see Avarsala's grandson throwing water balloons. Miller is a belter working for the Earth based company that takes care of policing on Ceres, and that is why he is seen as a traitor to the Belt. The Belters have a creole language, that mashes up many of earth's major languages. Interestingly it uses alot of hand gestures because belters often are working in space suits, and need to communicate visually.

Nobody loves Miller's hat more than Miller. I am so glad that I get to see you react to this show. It really is one hell of a ride.
  • @LeeCarlson
The story that you remember is titled "The Cold Equations" and it is all about real-world physics.
  • This show is just amazing in every way. Suspense, heart, character-development, acting, world building, moral dilemmas, epic visuals, humour, plot surprises, political intrigue, mystery and more! It’s just so amazing! The first about 2-4 episodes are slightly slower than the rest but once it gets started it never stops. Expect to not get what’s going on sometimes. It’s a very “show don’t tell” kind of show, things are set up to pay off later and it lets you figure it out yourself.

HOLY HELL YES. The Expanse is one of my favorite shows and definitely my favorite Sci-fi show. I love that you're starting this.
  • @kirkdarling4120
Welcome aboard! The Expanse is a very mature story, in that it began as a role-playing game, then became a successful 9-book novel series. The original authors were also in the screenwriting room. For them, this was the final draft of a story they knew very, very well. Thus, the episodes are loaded with clues, foreshadowing, and "Chekov's guns" to future episodes. You've already seen clues to events that occur in the fifth and sixth seasons. This is a very information-dense series. It demands the attention of the audience, but it doesn't hold your hand. There is no fluff, all the dialog is important, there is significant information on computer and cell phone screens. Watch what happens in the backgrounds, watch characters that are out of focus, pay attention to background sounds and voices. Characters won't explain things for the sake of the audience, and you won't know anything no character knows. But it all fits together, so things you don't understand at first will fit into the story later. You know what they know, and sometimes they're wrong. The characters are complex, and the story unwraps them gradually. The good guys have their spots and the bad guys have good rationales that even we fans still debate. Don't be surprised if it takes you a while to figure out which is which...or change your mind later. As far as what the Martians are, I'll tell you that "Mark Watney" exists in this universe. Oh, and this show excels at maddening cliffhanger episode endings.

Welcome to The Expanse, Setara! Arguably the best sci-fi ever. Definitely one of the best. Be aware that pretty much every word of dialog, and every screen you see, whether TV monitors or hand terminals, have information relevant to the story and/or world of The Expanse. Many questions answered will open two more questions, but it all comes together. Well- gravity wells of Earth and Mars. Walla- a person or lover of something Welwalla- Earth lover - a traitor to the people of the Belt, aka Beltalowda. (There is a Belter Creole translator online if you're interested.) There are no aliens, Martians are Humans from Mars. No hyperdrives. No lasers, phasers, artificial gravity, or any of the typical sci-fi tropes. Gravity is attained by centrifugal or linear acceleration. Weapons are point defense cannons, torpedoes/missiles, and rail guns. No shields. When smaller ships enter combat the crew wears vac suits and they vent the oxygen from the ship in case a cannon pierces the hull so they won't leak and waste air. Yeah, it's like they used Jonathan Banks sorta like clickbait, then kill him off in the first episode. 🙄 But you will most definitely not be disappointed in choosing The Expanse! It's like if Battlestar Galactica and Game of Thrones had a secret love child, it would be The Expanse. Oye Deng, Setara. Yam Seng! ✌️ P.S. Holden logged that distress call because he's Holden. It didn't have anything to do with Ade, and everything to do with saving the world....because...Holden. 😉
  • The best part of this show is that it treats the viewer with respect. It isn't interested in patronizing you, doesn't treat you like an idiot, and is willing to demand your attention and focus to keep up. In return, it gives a beautifully crafted, complex, thought provoking, and visceral world and story that can only be told with that kind of relationship with the audience. Strap in. This is a wild effin' ride!
  • @CLIFFisFTW
My favorite show. Can't wait for the rest =)
