  • Next time someone asks me why I look Asian, speak like a Malay, have an American first name and a Spanish last name, practice asian culture and eat Southeast Asian/ Chinese food, imma just show them this video
  • I love how this starts with pre colonial era and not with "whEn mAgEllan fOund the pHilippines"💕

The Philippines has a diverse history. Started from Hinduism and Buddhism Influence, then to Islamic Influence where Trading Grew and Flourished, then to the Spanish Empire where Catholicism grew, then to become a US Colony where Protestantism and the English Language Grew , then to become occupied by the Japanese Empire, and then finally become independent. Now that’s crazy

We, Filipinos, tend to say "Tangkilikin ang sariling atin" which literally means to "love your own". But given how we were influenced by various cultures, colonized for hundreds of years, is there really something that we can truly call our own? Even our own country name isn't our own..

Ottomans fighting Aztecs, Mayans and Incas in the Phillipines is not something I expected to hear about today
  • @sebbah2
Aztecs and egyptians fighting on opposite sides in the Philippines... man I love history!
  • Didn't know we shared so much back in the days. Recently I have been really curious about Phillipines and their freedom revolution and how bravely they fought for their native country. Love from India.

It's nice to see that a non-filipino is doing a lot of research on Philippine history that has been forgotten by most of the Filipino community.

I’m Mexican & the similarities between both Mexico’s and the Philippines’s culture, cuisine religion, family values etc is shockingly similar! Nuestros primos asiáticos!🇲🇽🇵🇭
  • i visited the philippines a month ago an amazing country full of humbleness people. as a northern mexican i would say phillipines is like south mexico but in asia
  • @BisayangHilaw
Very informative, thank you! Amazed to hear the Incans, Aztecs and Mayans made their way over here as well!
  • My father's ancestors came from Indonesia and my mother's came from Spain. Though I was born in the Philippines so I'm called Filipino. And Im proud of it!!!
  • Kudos to the uploader. This is indeed the most concise, most on point historical narrative I've ever heard and seen on youtube.

When I thought Filipinos look Chinese, I met one who looked Samoan. When I met one who looked Samoan, I met one who looked Chinese. Some of them look like Latin Americans and Turkish. I can never tell what an original Filipino looks like and now I know why because of this video.

Ottomans fighting Aztecs, Mayans and Incas in the Philippines What is this, a crossover episode?
  • @izaeyah5440
I’m part black and Filipino and since I live in the us, we didn’t really learn about this in school so this is really help to getting to know my culture
  • I appreciate the video in giving a great run down and summary of our people’s history. I did however notice the omission of the Philippine-American war, as well as the Moro rebellion that took place during American occupation. As a Filipino born in the US, American colonialism in the Philippines was only brought up one time in high school. I’m thankful to the US for the opportunities it has given me and my family, but I also recognize that the country may not always act in the best interest of people who look like me.
