The problem with the Exchange - Halo Infinite

Hey folks!

The exchange system, is a system within Halo Infinite that allows players to unlock various cosmetics free of charge (as long as you have enough Spartan points that is) and although the exchange is a wonderful inclusion, it does have it's fair share of problems. And it leaves a lot to be desired.

So today I'll be talking about my issues with the exchange, while also highlighting what I believe it does right and how I'd like it to improve!

I feel like if 343 added a few new things every week it would be much better. there's like hundreds of random emblems, coatings, and nameplates that have never been released that could easily be added to the exchange

I don’t think the exchange is bad, I just don’t think 343 are letting it reach its full potential
  • Exchange had so much potential but they dropped the ball also first

I'm honestly just waiting for the mark v zeta helmet, I was never able to get it at the time, and I'm looking forward to it
  • > My friend didn't unlock Kabuto Helmet "We can wait for the Exchange to feature Tenrai items! It'll be there! >Tenrai IV drops >Looks inside >Kabuto isn't there.

I think one way to add spartan points could be to make something in forge. I played gta a while ago and a weekly challenge was make a race mode/map for a 100k which is chump change but a new player could buy clothes, car or weapons with that. I've not seen that challenge return but for halo something should exist since it heavily uses forge creations

let’s not forget the new dynasty coating from season 2, spartans eklund’s and dihn’s armors kits and pieces were earnable, however dihn’s coating was never released and the only way you can wear it is by putting on his kit for the rakshasa core.
  • I believe there are still unreleased unlockables from the campaign. One example I can give is the other coating, 'Banished Deception' for the other vehicles, like the wasp.
  • I'd really like to see dinh's new dynasty coating in the exchange at some point and some of the other visors that were added on S2 that were never released. as well as maybe updating past event weekly rewards to be cross-core ( like foxwood seal, on track, redline interrupt, ecru abbey, hammerhead squadron coatings updated, or just past weekly coatings in general.

I'm actually kind of mad that they're putting old items in the exchange, especially with all the unreleased stuff that exists. Not only does the exchange add no reward to those who have been playing the game through its darkest times, it literally removes the rewards we did get. It makes all those coatings we got in ultimate rewards when nobody was playing, worthless. Part of the reason I love my 100% free armor is that I strugggled to make it look so good, and soon everyone will just be able to get all those exclusive pieces in the exchange. Instead there should be new stuff so anyone can make a good looking 100% free armor, but not the one I struggled to make, ultimate reward by ultimate reward, twitch drop by twitch drop, event by event. This is made even worse by the fact that you can't show the time you invested in the game with unlockable items like in Halo 3 or reach. The only bragging rights we get except for the Hero rank are those "exclusives", which now aren't.

They had a good template for Infinite with MCC's Exchange. 1 point for 1 item and a few more points for the rare stuff. Granted MCC Exchange has it's issues too. Some items are pretty much unobtainable now because they either take upwards of a year to rotate back in or the bottom row items never coming back. 343 needs to address the issues in both games, but given they're focused on the next game, and everything else is on life support, I doubt we'll see them fix either.
  • That's pretty much all the things it should be, yup. It would be a much better feature with 50 match SP, content drops every two weeks, and bringing in the unreleased content faster. I'm kind of surprised they didn't use one of the unreleased things with a lot of community interest as a splash to introduce the feature, too. Floating the silent snow coating would have got people grinding for it. I'm not seeing any xanadu whatever in matchmaking even now that maxing the available points earnings can afford it.

Here is the BIG problem as I see it player retention is terrible because I can complete all challenges in 3-5 hours, put the game down, and not play it for a week outside of Ranked there is no incentive to grind everyday if 343 had 4 Dailly Challenges (3+ the one we have now) people would play everyday to unlock the Ultimate at the end of the week. As things stand now I play other games during the week I just finished SW: Jedi Survivor I have other options but GODDAMN Halo's gameplay is just so good I hate to just stop investing time in something I love

It's a welcome addition, they just need to update it more frequently than once a month and allow people to earn SP per match. To me this seems like common sense to get better daily engagement for the game. 🤷‍♂

Tbh, the exchange is the only reason I started playing again after a while, especially when I don’t want to spend 100$ on battle passes and cosmetics. If they didn’t add back the Yokai helmet, then I wouldn’t have a reason to play again. I already completed the Tenrai operation in 4 days, even though I could’ve spent an entire night to complete it (it was took me less than 12 hours to lvl 15) only thing I really want in terms of customization is the kabuto helmet, since it was one of the helmets I fell in love with after halo 3 hayabusa, and another thing that I would want integrated in matchmaking is more rewards while progressing through the ranks, since all we get are emblems that can be added onto vehicles and armor, but does nothing in comparison to getting either credits or Spartan points for better customization and cosmetics in general. If something is priced at 30,000 Spartan Points with the current methods of obtainment only, imo it either: A: Needs to be a very special or unique cosmetic. Say, an animated coating or weapon model. Something which is insanely cool by design and would turn a lot of heads due to how different it is. B: Don't be one item - make it a bundle of multiple items. Instead of just one coating, why not a coating alongside a helmet, shoulder pads, chestpiece and gloves? Make it look like a good deal by bundling. Either way, no single normal item should cost 30,000 SP. And I think a lot of the complaints levied at SP's earn rate would not exist if it wasn't for Xanadu Falu both being at 30k and being "available" since day 1 but mathematically unobtainable until over a month later.
  • Personally, I'd like to be able to trade in my Spartan Points for Credits (maybe 1,000 SP = 50 or 100 Credits) If they're going to put most of the content in the store now, I'd like to at least be able to purchase some of it without bringing out my wallet. This also (sort of) brings back the ability to purchase the next operation by completing the previous. I'm having a hard time putting my thoughts into words, so I hope y'all understand what I'm going for.

Add a Spartan Points per Match reward, boom, Exchange currency problem solved. Infinite already went through this crap when it launched with 100 tier battle passes and no match XP, being restricted to a challenge based XP unlock system. Now we're going through this same crap again with the Exchange and Spartan Points.
