Poison types got done dirty in Gen 1 back when Psychic was overpowered... but how much did they improve in the following generations? With a cool variety of them in Pokemon FireRed, can we make the best of what we've got and use them to beat the game's hardest challenge?!

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon FireRed Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Poison types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Just a note on Koga there, Haunter actually is a ridiculous hard counter to his team. Koga only has Normal and Poison moves which Haunter is immune to or quad-resists. You can just slowly wear Koga out, or give Haunter your Psychic TM to make the process faster. You even have Curse to get the jump on Muk before he minimizes too much And the best part is that you can guarantee Ghastly on the Pokemon Tower by using Repel to keep Cubone out, so literallly any FRLG Nuzlocke can make use of this. The Psychic TM is a bit of an investment but the premier uses of the TM learn it naturally at some point.

Quick note: Brick Break doesn't lower defence, unlike Rock Smash. It rather breaks Reflect and Light Screen.

13:31 - Nidoking vs. Raticate on the S.S. Anne...if you've seen Pedro Araujo's Pokemon Red animation, you probably got flashbacks like I did.... 😱

Yes!! Silph Nuzlocke challenge make Sundays so much fun!!! I'm currently doing a poison Nuzlocke in fire red so I'm sure we'll have some poke in common 😊
  • @mbclove1
I'm doing this same exact run. If you put thief on your beedrill you could get tons of oran berries from Jigglypuff on that 1st route after Brock.
  • @zerolosi
I actually enjoy seeing lost runs, no one puts them out with just makes us viewers feel like the runs are really easy, when they actually require a lot of knowledge and planning.
  • Silph Spectre Sunday! Can't wait to check this one out, poison type was always more difficult to succeed with imo
  • @GravyGame
I literally did this exact one just a couple months back! Was my first nuzlocke ever. Love these videos!
  • Gary's rematch team is bonkers. Hardcore nuzlocke with any type would've been tricky. Love the idea of rematch runs!
  • It’s nice to see a Fire Red one again. I feel like it’s been ages.
  • “kept on hitting brick break hoping for the defense drop” you’d be waiting a long time for that my friend 😂
  • Slowbro staring at his trainer like "I CANT LEARN IT TF YA MEAN"
  • As much as the new gen nuzlockes, old gen is so fun to watch given the challenges of not having as much to work with. Really fun video to watch
  • @renren958
Pretty nice run! I remember doing a mono poison nuzlocke in Emerald, was defo a lot harder due to the limited encounters.
  • @TheBigPenguu
Considering the fight on the SS Anne is the last time you see the Rival's Raticate, and the next time you fight the Rival is in Pokemon Tower, one can come to the conclusion that your Nidoking kicked that rat to death.
  • I feel like naming the Bulbasaur Pamela (Poison Ivy) was a missed opportunity 😅😂
