Hey everybody! Thanks for watching this video, "The Story of the Best Meme EVER: Never Gonna Give You Up & Rickrolling". Rick Astley's 1987 song, "Never Gonna Give You Up" is an absolute classic in the 80's canon. It's catchy, dance-able, and I love every second of it. But what's even more interesting than the song itself, is what happened yeaaaaaaaars down the road. From around 2005-2008, an unforgettable meme/prank was created: Rickrolling. It's a classic, bait-and-switch gag that sends an unsuspecting user to the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up. How and why did this happen? And what effect did it have on Rick? Check it out here!

He looks 18, sounds 58, dances like an 8 year old, and is still only 21 when that song came out :/

Fun fact, last week he got Rickrolled himself on reddit. He posted a picture of him from his first tour, someone posted a link saying they had a picture with him back in the day, said link was the video. He responded with the applause emoji.

Rick Astley: I can’t deal with fame, I’m quitting music The internet: you will become our anthem and live in eternity
  • The great thing about this meme is that: RICK CAN SING; the SONG IS CATCHY; his little dance is CUTE; and he's not being a Diva about it! MEME ON!
  • @Carzey
If Rickrolling dies, then every other meme goes down with it.
  • im surprised you never mentioned the fact that theres someone in the Guinness book of world records for rickrolling the most amount of people in the world, and when Guinness records reached out to him, he successfully rickrolled THEM.

Rick Astley is keeping his promise. He's not: -Giving us up -Letting us down -Running out and deserting us -Making us cry -Saying goodbye -Telling lies and hurt us

We're not making fun of him. That song is legit fire, even after all this time!
  • Humility is what a lot of these celebrities are missing. What a great guy!
  • @Youba05
Fun fact : he rickrolled us at the start.
  • Rick is a legend He just played with the memers and his legacy will live on for generations. Rick is respectable for retaining artistic integrity and good sportness
  • This guy Rick Astley has always been so humble I remember when he came into fame in the 80s every interview, he was so down to earth nor diva manners whatsoever, just an ordinary bloke with a masculine great voice, ty Rick for some good nights at the clubs!
  • Rick: I’m done with music. The internet: You know the rules and so do I.
  • @adithyaas9465
Petition to make this song the official anthem of the Internet.
  • The song is a reminder of how different things were back then. People were a lot less self-conscious and there was a feel good factor that is missing today. This is really why this song became so popular. The meme was just an excuse to listen to what is arguably a guilty pleasure kind of song

He's very talented and down to earth. A genuine, real guy.
