GEN2 to GEN 3 Development Update

It's been a few months since I made a video about making a trade between GEN2 and GEN3. Since then I've been hard at work to make it a lot more stable. In this video we'll talk more about the current issues I'm facing and some frequently asked questions.

There are a few things that aren’t mentioned in the video. So I decided to mention them here.

Stat Experience to EVs
In GEN2 there is no limit to stat experience. When converting to GEN3 it would then be possible to go over the allowed maximum of 510 EVs. In the software I programmed that all EVs will be lowered until they are less or equal to the allowed maximum.

Are these Pokémon Legit?
It depends. When transferring to Pokémon Home it mostly depends on if the Pokémon has a legal move set. Our Fissure Machamp in this video for example was not allowed into Pokémon Bank. Everyone else is accepted without any problems. But if you for example would check these Pokémon in PKHeX then these Pokémon would not be considered legit, mostly because of the ribbon I decided to give to them. To make them more legal it would be best to not give them the ribbon and to try and find a PID that would match the IVs, but this is low priority in my eyes.

  • absolutely insane to be seeing this process happen in real time, you're making the impossible possible and it's amazing to watch
  • @Volgotha
I will get one of these of SECOND they're for sale. You are going to save my childhood memories from their prison in those cartridges. You're a hero.
  • @LegendBegins
Super glad to see you’re still working on this. Can’t wait to see how it develops. Using a Ditto to handle gen 3 Pokémon is a brilliant fix.
  • @ShankMods
This is really awesome. I'd love to buy/make one of these some day. Attaining communication on a link cable between a system in GBA mode and a system in GBC is something I never would have guessed would be possible. That's pretty wild. I could see this opening the door to lots of capabilities for inter-system communication for GBA ROM hacks. I'm so looking forward to seeing where this project goes. So much potential!

I legit have never been as excited for something, as I am for this. The idea that Pokemon stuck in 20+yo save files can finally get all the way up on the Switch makes me happy. I can't wait to do the Ribbon Master challenge with an Eevee caught in Pokemon Red. I genuinely cannot wait for this to be available to buy.
  • Really cool to see how you've been refining this even more!!! Super cool to see how you have those 2 separate modes to toggle between stat preservation and Pokemon preservation. Out of curiosity, since only Unown I and V are possible to be shiny in Gen II due to a quirk in the DVs, does trading, for example, a shiny Unown A from Fire Red to Gen II make it just a normal Unown A in Gen II, or do you have a way to make it show up as a shiny A?
  • 5:59 Hey, that’s me! Seriously though, super excited to see the progress you’ve made. Keep it up! 👍
  • Man, you are a legend! Solving one of the biggest issues of the pokemon franchise, after decades of agony... I can't describe how happy I am by watching the development of this project, doing all this in an accurately way... I can't wait to get a copy of the final product! Oh, and I must say that I found the Ditto thing outstanding! That was a genius catch!

As someone who is currently working on a Master DeX and want to transfer the prize Pokemon from the Stadium games to current hardware, I'm so glad I found this project.
  • @konman10000
This is legitimately a once in a lifetime project and experience. I'm honored I get to be a long for the ride. Thank you so much for what you're doing and especially for sharing it with the community like this!
  • @maxalmonte14
I'm counting the days until this is released to the public!
  • @jorgen_ak
Eyyy can't wait dude! Love how this project is coming along. Rip my dreams of a no guard machamp with fissure though
  • @nikkaz1950
The amount of work put into this is amazing. Its a task that I dont think anyone thought would be possible to complete and yet you have not only done it but IMPROVED it. Round of applause to you. Cant wait to see the finished results and if you ever find workarounds to other problems like lets go not being able to trade with the rest of generation 7
  • @Kleowi
This is all compatible with Pokemon Home because in terms of legality Pokemon Home already has the necessary flags and checks for a Pokemon from Gen 1 and 2 to transfer to Gen 8 and beyond curtesy of the Virtual Console, but PKHeX will quickly catch any inconsistency they might have. Then again PKHeX has false positives for old NYPC Pokemon for Gen 3 so our milleage may vary. The crux of the matter is the legality of those pokemon obtaining moves not allowed in the current gen, as well as Ribbons and what not. From a legality standpoint, Home doesn't care much for Ribbons, but legitimacy wise a Gen 2 pokemon has no business owning Gen 3 ribbons. And for using those Pokemon competitively (which you shouldn't) making them Battle Ready in Gen 8 purges any Legacy moves they might have that could give them an advantage, so it all balances out.

Got my eye on this, it's never been so exciting to be a classic pokemon fan! The fact such a device even exists at all is thrilling and I know as soon as you announce you're selling them I'm gonna drop everything and get at least one.
  • @MaxxTheLycanroc
The moment this comes out to the public I will be buying this, I honestly can't believe how awesome it is to see this change in what we thought was impossible happen in real time
  • @nayiru5877
This is amazing! Unfortunately, It's too late to save my childhood friends, the cartridge battery died about 10 years ago. Wish they had never made that limitation, but I'm so glad you're developing this for those who still have them.
  • @BuiRoyValdez
I'll not deny, I keep coming back here to see if there is ever progress on it. I seriously hope to see more from this. There's so much that can come from this. Sure, the 3ds virtual console allows the trades on up to bank, but personally? This method is still more fun to me in its ways.
  • @markeire3028
Fascinating stuff. I've never seen any other explanations of the protocols of the trades and hardware requirements. You make it really easy to follow along. Amazing work
  • @toros7983
Darn hope this becomes available to the purchase soon, with bank potentially closing whenever they decide to pull the plug on it, time is running out.
