Over A year Ago I started Researching the orgins of johto, what I found blew me away. this information has never been made public by Pokemon, But As I began to dissect these games, Everything began to connect. I'ts been 20 years now, We will likely never get a definitive Answer. But this is without a doubt the closest we have come.

patreon.com/BlueBoyPhin Thank you for watching this video, it took so much out of us to create, many long nights of talking, editing, didnt sleep hardly any for the days up until we posted. This is our magnum opus of a video, and we can do it again. we are still in japan writing the script for the next video about to set off to the next location. But we desperately want to make this happen without sponsors on the videos, so we have created a patreon, where we will be sharing behind the scenes, deleted scenes from this video, and so much extra footage of our adventure's and a lot more, I have always wanted to do a patreon but i never felt like i had something to really give back but I want this to be a new era for pokemon discoveries and we are just getting started. we have so much more information im dying to share. but I want every video with to be carried with care and I want to tell these stories through our lens and give them the human effort they deserve. If you are in the place where you can comfortably support these future videos, we would love to bring more to you. Thank you regardless for watching this. it really was made by 2 people giving it their true hard work and love.

This really is what made these older games special. The game was an art piece, not a tech demo aiming to make the most money. Somebody LOVED this game and LOVED Japan and went incredibly out of their way just to share that with the world.
  • @DrPOP-jp7eb
Bro went to Japan to make a Pokémon nostalgia lore documentary. Mad respect.
  • @PunsAndBuns
Who ever did the color grading for the IRL shots deserves major kudos. The nostalgia radiated from this video

Old man here. Gold was the last pkm game I owned. Some jerk in elementary school stole it and my parents refused to get me another pokemon game after that. To say I loved that game would be a massive understatement. This video made me cry. It gave me some closure. I still remember pokemon mania at its prime. I still remember watching the very first episode of the cartoon. All that I can vividly remember is the AMAZING opening, and the shot of ho-oh (then a total mystery) flying away. That scene stuck with me for over 20 years. And this video made that memory hit me like a truck. Thank you so much for this

Man lowkey fed us an archaology documentary wearing pokemon clothing
  • @Woodierbean
This is one of the greatest Pokémon videos I think I have ever seen - the real, on the ground footage, the storytelling, the flow, the music. Truly this video is a masterpiece

I used to live on Awaji Island, the real life equivalent to Johto's Whirl Islands. The island divides the Seto Inland Sea from the Pacific Ocean. The inland sea has a slightly higher water level than the Pacific, which creates perpetual whirlpools where the two meet. They have short boat tours where you can see them up close. The island's most famous deities are Izanagi and Izanami. The legend goes that Izanagi, from the heavens, dipped his spear into the waters and whirled them up, and when he pulled it out, the crystallized droplets that fell became the islands of Japan. For that reason, Awaji Island is considered to be the origin island, and there is a famous shrine to Izanagi located there. It's a really cool place and worth spending a day or two there if you take a trip to Japan.

Dudes will say "I know a spot" and take you to the Ruins of Alph
  • "A person I met, wandering throught asuka, training to becoming a tourguide took me here. And described this markings as energy markings." So thats why Unown only ever learned the move Hidden Power.

The real pokemon were the places we've been to all along
  • @TheAnimeMan
And this is why Gold/Silver is the GOAT. Great video!

From the moment I took my first step into Johto as a boy so long ago, I knew there was something special about these games. My young mind couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I just knew. All my life, Johto felt more like home than any place I've lived. I yearned to escape to it every chance I got. As I explored my desire to write stories, I explored Johto more with fanfiction. I did research into it, researched the real-world equivalent, and explored ideas. But never to this extent. Good sir, you have cleared my mind and explained why I felt so connected to this fictional realm. Thank you. I will be sure to check out your other videos.
  • @Bladester16
Opened this up for a casual background video type of documentary, but instead got one the most interesting videos I have ever seen on Pokemon
  • I'm 32, and some days, when I walk outside and smell the air, I still think about that feeling I had as a kid playing pokemon at the park, and I think, "I wonder what Pokemon I will find today."
  • @jbaig1
I hope this video picks up steam; this was astonishing. The attention to detail in Johto is truly incredible.
  • @ichigo3003
Not only is this incredibly well researched and edited, this also soothed the disappointment about what felt like an unfinished game feature. It was meant to be like that! I feel like a childhood mystery is finally solved. Thank you so much for this fr.
  • @Hipsterjes
The fact that we were all playing something so special without knowing it, to discover years later, is so beautiful.
  • @flookaraz
This genuinely blew my mind, especially that Gold - Sun and SIlver - Moon discovery/connection discovered. WOW. Great research and on-the-ground work about something none of us knew about.
  • @MalorakVideo
This straght up made me cry. This is one of the best gaming related videos I've ever seen in general. It's a fantastic documentary with an amazingly heartfelt message, a lot of small, fun situations (you running while saying "these are some of the biggest spiders I've EVER seen was 100% relatable lol) and with a ton of super interesting information. Thank you. Subbed, and looking forward to anything else you put out.
