Filmed in 1987/ 88. So along came The Body Shop in the 1980's, and to add a touch of much needed glamour to the hippy shops was super star make up diva Barbara Daly. This video was sold in-store, alongside 'Colourings', The Body Shop's first makeup line, which was famously & uniquely for the time 'Cruelty Free.'

Pretty much all of the advice stands today & all of these top tips will give you a great everyday, natural look; and the best thing over then, is that there's so much more choice of products today, even the cheaper lines can give great finishes, unlike then when cheap make up made you look, well, cheap! It's also great as it shows techniques for younger & older skin types.

Many people have commented that this video is extremely relaxing & ASMR like, so that's now in the title. Enjoy!

Barbara Daly was Princess Diana's make up artist for a while. She did her wedding make up as well. Diana had a fondness for blue eyeliner and blue eyeshadow, because she had blue eyes, but Barbara taught her to use shades of brown instead.

This lady is the original beauty guru. Damping the sponge and what not, and the model is stunning.

I was expecting this to be 100% dated AF but a lot of these tips are legit and things we all still do today.

This old school makeup class is better then the video tutorials on YouTube.

Thank god I found this. I’ve been looking for a natural 80’s makeup tutorial. Everyone uses bright colors for an 80’s look when it was really only worn for parties or special occasions.
  • This was shot in 1987 & released in 1988. Not everyone, in fact most people, didn't walk down the street, at 8 in the morning, with day-glo neon makeup, the 80's is very misunderstood.

😲...That model reminds me of my Mom. 😔 I miss her. She looks so pretty. And I don't mean to stray from the topic but the makeup artist has such a Calming voice.

I definitely like the natural blush versus the heavy contour of today
  • Barbara Daly was and is a super talented make up artist, and her style is simple and uncomplicated, as is her tutorial. She was more than capable of doing “full beat” or “cut crease” which is not new, but here she is doing a simple uncomplicated make up that can be adapted for any age, and is totally relevant. She is not selling product, dissing competitors, but simply demonstrating her understated skill. Much admiration.
  • This is how the new "tutorials" from the youtubers should be, instead of just showing the fair of the vanity everyday. This video contains more concrete and solid tips than an entire channel of a youtuber.

Excellent, and not once did she say "now I'm going in with..."

These are actually the makeup techniques my mom taught me, and it's how I first learned how to do my makeup. Times change, and my routine is a bit lengthier and my colors are not so natural and subtle... but I liked the makeup in this video, it gave me some nostalgia of me as a young girl, watching my mother do her makeup.

This is exactly how I was taught to do makeup as a teenager in the 90s, this is brilliant to watch, makes me feel all nostalgic!

Everyone talking about today's makeup being a lot.. it is popularized by YouTube makeup gurus, which the new generation of people growing up since 2000's have been watching. But the skills she taught in this video are still used today, and as a beauty consultant, when people come to me to learn, this is still how I teach them. There's no way to teach customers how to do a full beat face in one go, that takes a lot of practice maybe even years for some to be that good. Makeup today is a true art and not everyone can do cut creases and all these crazy looks so easily.

I had the video tape of this as a kid and once I watched it, I couldn't stop. I probably watched this thousands of times. It also explains why I had quite a few of Body Shop's brushes. Barbara was my first/original video makeup guru! hahaha... I used many of her techniques for years and they were definitely very useful. I have since "grown" into my own and learned more tips and tricks from others as well. But one of the most important things I learned along the way is, there is no one single way to apply anything and I shouldn't fear making mistakes. I can always wipe it off and re-apply. One particular mua helped me come to this very important conclusion. When I heard that, it was like an epiphany! Nevertheless, I will always thank Barbara for giving me a good head start and for making me love and enjoy applying makeup.
