Many people daydream about traveling the world, but all of them have the same excuse - lack of money. Tomislav, after traveling the world for years with almost no money, shows how it is possible for everyone to do the same, if they really want to.

Tomislav Perko, 29, is a travel writer from Croatia. After a career of a stockbroker, broke because of the financial crisis, he hits the road and turns it into his home. He uses alternative ways of traveling – hitchhiking, couchsurfing, working/volunteering, and manages to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in his pocket, meeting the most amazing people on the way.

Five years later, he publishes a book “1000 Days of Spring” and goes around giving lectures about what it means to live on the road. Find out more on his website: tomislavperko.com/en/.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

This guy has taken homelessness to a new international level
  • Just turned 19, I've been wanting to travel the world my whole life and after watching this, any other route in life at the moment seems insane. Wish me luck!

  • When you get really motivated and then realize you're watching this during a pandemic 😑
  • "20 years from now you will be more dissapointed by the things you didn't do, rather than the things you did." Love.
  • Just a small note. This is all wonderful and amazing, but as a woman most of those choices are a very real threat to safety... it's not even a matter of "you can do it if you are careful" because there is no way to calculate in advance what situation you will be in. Very happy for those who have the chance and priviledge to experience this. Be also mindful of more fragile people on your journey :)
  • "No matter how long you wait, the right ride will come."... that is awesome

this was dope and his slight humor made it even better
  • This video is the reason why I’ve traveled so much the last 5 years. Really opened my eyes. Tom is right, your friends and family will tell you that you’re going to die if you travel alone but that’s just the media trying to scare you.
  • Tomorrow is the day I will reach my home town after 4 months of hitchhiking from India to Germany :) This man was my inspiration! Listen to him
  • I'm almost seventy years old And still have that itching in my soul to go places and meet new people, did a lot of traveling in my life (40 countries in 4 continents)my advise to young people, don't let life pass you by,you only live once and after thirty, time goes by so fast and never returns.❤
  • After watching this video 3 years ago my best friend and I had traveled for 6 months across Europe starting with 15Euros. It was the best decision I have ever made, so many new insights, so many new people so much kindness it was awesome. It had the greatest impact in helping me find out who I am.

i watched this video when I was like 17 or something, the concept of traveling the world seemed so distant and amazing, I saw a comment that said "the idea of not traveling the world seems more crazy than traveling it" 23 yo currently watching this from brazil, next week to Chile, life is great ❤
  • In less than a month I'll be trekking around Europe. As a 23 year old woman, I think I'll opt for hostels rather than coach surfing or hitchhiking but I look forward to all of the people I'll meet

Story has been told in a simple, yet an amazing way. Thank you Tomislav Perko!
  • In about 1984 when I lived in New Mexico I picked up a older couple from England who were hitchhiking around the world. They had already been across Canada and down the US West coast and throughout Mexico. He had his retirement pension sent to banks along their way. They were on their way back to Vancouver and were then flying to Fiji and Australia. I never heard from then again but they sure expanded my concepts of what is possible.
