Since when do planes run on nuculear reactors???? *realizes everything in the FO universe runs on nuculear power Oh, right

I find it funny how flight 1981's smuggling manifest says the goods came from Chicago, at least we know Chicago is rotten as hell in this game's world.

There’s at least one you missed, I found one of those stingrays on a highway overpass, a little north west of the bunker hill area. And that one actually looked pretty undamaged, it was just sitting on the highway, surrounded by cars.
  • I love how in the hidden compartment there's just "$2500 cash." The USD was supposed to be hyperinflated in the Fallout world. A stack of pre-war money is a $10,000 stack of bills which someone estimated inflation to be 2800% compared to today due to the price of the Capitol Post in Fallout 3 being $56 compared to what you'd probably expect to pay today for a newspaper, which is around $2. Meaning they were smuggling the equivalent of approximately $80 USD. Totally worth putting in all the effort of smuggling.

Its funny how without the engines how quickly these aircraft fell. It kinda tells how aerodynamic these things were that they couldn't "glide" that far. (or at least I'm getting that impression) Ive always noted how in this world, efficiency wasn't the answer as much as "Can we put a bigger engine in it?".

I wish we could have fixed up any of the old world tech in these games. I just can't stand to see all these old broken machines left to rust and rot. Plus, I want to drive around in a salvaged tank ala Fallout Tactics.

Kind of an interesting fact about aircraft and EMP is that the russian Mikoyan Gurevich MIG-25 Foxbat had most of its internal electronics encased in Vacuum tubes so in the event of a thermonuclear detonation the plane would be unaffected by the resulting EMP.
  • wouldn't it be cool if we could find a holotape of someone rushing somewhere safe before the bombs drop and than them walking outside afterwards and get there reaction
  • with Skylanes 1981, if you take Nick Valentine with you, he tells you how it crashes by saying "The bombs didn't bring this plane down, it was the highway."
  • As a pilot, I appreciate the detail they put into that radio calls. Most of it was pretty good, I'm pleasantly surprised :D.

whenever I play Fallout I always think back to ox's videos like he's some sort of omniscient being
  • Presumably the planes were nuke powered which would've made the engines electric, not fuel based. So an EMP would actually probably disrupt the electrics of the engine despite the nuclear power not being effected. That first wreck didn't see the blast probably because it wasn't faced that direction, not to mention their altitude would've had an effect. Plus I believe the other plane was in the process of landing. The other factor is not just the EMP, but the shockwave. Which may have caused the planes to break up AS they were falling, making it harder to find all the pieces.

OMG, I'm seeing the jet liner model for the first time, and feel an uncontrollable desire to build it in Kerbal Space Program.
  • @m.anthonyc.8761
Actually the EMP Shockwave from the nuclear blast didn't just knock out the navigation systems on the airplanes, it took out all of the electronics and shorted them out. That's what a electromagnetic pulse Shockwave does.

i remember a while back i was just wandering around the swamps by the highway around the bottom of the map, when all of a sudden i saw one of those stingray planes, with mostly the top parts sticking out of the highway bridge. (this was on ground level btw)

The quality of the content you produce is consistently high.
  • @Dylan_Otto
am I the only one getting shivers down my back listening to the black box recordings?
  • @lizzy4514
"This one is probably my favourite of the crashed ships" I never knew boats could fly
  • @razinabbas4551
Did anyone think of Metro Last Light's plane scene during this video?
