this kind of ghost stories/ story telling was utterly missing in potc 5. one of my favourite things of potc is the fact that they never actually use visual flashbacks so that you are intrigued by suspense of the story and the ambiguity of characters telling it. but in potc 5 they just show what happens, which imo is just a lazy excuse to forfeit good writing, in fact the flashbacks even disobey some of the lore set up by the first 4 movies.

Gibbs and Barbossa had two things in common: #1: They were lifelong sailors. #2: They told the best ghost stories. Think of the story Gibbs tells Will about when Barbossa lead a mutiny against Jack, and the story Barbossa told Elizabeth about the cursed treasure of Cortez; or the one Barbossa told Jack about the night the Black Pearl was sunk, and tell me if I'm wrong.

They should have kept this in to at least explain why Jack didn't actually die at the end of the movie

I feel more and more like Mr Gibbs as I get older. Everyone thinks he's crazy, but he always turns out to be right.
