There are some screaming good deals on used EVs but it is really important to do a little homework if the sales price isn't in your "play money" budget. Every EV has at least one fan/owner's group, and their forum will tell you what kind of issues to look for when checking out a car. 8 years ago I bought my first EV, a 2011 Nissan LEAF with a weak battery. The seller let me take it to a dealer for a diagnostic test where I learned the battery was still under warranty. I bought the car for a song, had the battery replaced for free, and my cousin's kid now commutes in it every day having accumulated about 120,000 miles on it.

My daily driver is a 2015 model S I picked up for $13k out the door. After the tax credit, under $10k. Threw some new tires and it’s good to go. Honesty blown away by how impressed I am with the car. Keep in mind they’re cheap for a reason, if the battery goes out, you’re looking at $10k to replace it. But hey, these things regularly reach 200k+ miles. Mine had 78k when I bought it and now it’s at 95k and running great. Something really cool about getting into my car every morning and it being at a “full tank”.

We live in Spain where Teslas are popular, particularly as taxis. I was in one the other day and saw it had 500K km on it, or just over 300K miles.

This is the first car Sam bought that will not have a head gasket issue! GL!

Lucky You! I bought a 2018 Ford focus electric from a dealer. It had some minor issues like light hail damage and a minor accident with no airbag deployment. Anyway it had 29K miles a California car. Has a two year warranty on battery and major elec. components. Sat on the dealer lot for a year. Bought it for $10K and asked the dealer to see if I qualified as the second consumer for tax purposes. I did so now I have this nearly new Focus for Less than $7K. Love the car and I wasn't a focus fan, but I am now. Costs $3 per hundred miles to operate.

Those screw heads on the fuse cover looked like they had not seen a screwdriver in some time?….

Am I watching a QVC show? You're selling car wax and vacuums.

You bought a 2nd generation Model S which has a lot of improvements over the 1st which has Mercedes controls on the steering column including turn signal lever down low on the left. 1st generation barely has cruise control and single rear wheel motor. No autopilot, no adaptive cruise control. I had a 2013 Model S 85 for 10 years. Surprised for as long as that car sat on the lot the 12v battery was ok. The key fob would have done nothing if the 12v was dead. Pull the front “grill” off to access 12v boost terminals.

What a steal! Very nice car. Surprised how easy the Tesla service was.

what website do you use to look for those cars?
  • I am trying to understand. Sam buys a car, Sam fixes a car, Sam doesn’t leave the car rotting in his cow field. What is this witchcraft 🤣🤣
