Note: The US Navy put no restrictions on me about what I should say or how I should present what I learned on this trip. Other than making sure my footage was cleared for Operational Security, I am free to say whatever I want about this experience.

Another note: The Navy did not ask me to provide a link to their website (or do anything for that matter), but I’m going to provide a link because I want smart people to become submariners. The US Navy continues to provide stability and security in ways no other organization on earth does. If you are interested to find out how you can join the Navy you can visit the website here: www.navy.com/

There are tons of interesting career opportunities out there that I never knew about:

The US Navy has several options such as engineer, pilot, submariner, logistics, accountant, medical doctor, and even Public Affairs specialist. I continue to be impressed by people that I meed who spent time in the Navy. I worked with various people during the course of filming this video and they were all top notch. www.navy.com/

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video. I'd also like to thank the US Navy Public Affairs Officers who helped coordinate this. After clearing the video for OPSEC, they did not limit my creativity in anyway whatsoever. I decided to make a video about the Command Structure on the submarine so we had a better foundation moving forward in the Submarine Deep Dive. This video is just the beginning! I have some incredible things to show you as a part of the deep dive. Please consider subscribing for those. I'm most grateful to people who go the extra mile and support Smarter Every Day on Patreon. It's a super big deal because it brings stability to Smarter Every Day in ways that's hard to describe. In this case, I had to buy a plane ticket to the Arctic on relatively short notice. If you'd like to become a Patron, I'd greatly appreciate it. The link is here: www.patreon.com/smartereveryday

“THIS is the USS Toledo.... I’m going to show it’s quirks and features, then take for a drive and give it a Doug score.”
  • @Xambonii
I love how one week Destin is interviewing the captain of a nuclear submarine and a couple weeks ago he was interviewing a guy that runs a weed wacker. Only the experts for this show!
  • @ALiz86
I can't get over how nice you are to everyone. You aren't even on the submarine and you introduce yourself to sailors. As well as on the Sub. I think it is awesome! You seem like a genuine, kind human being. We need more people like you in the world!
  • @primoxxl71
You can't believe how young the crew are and how much responsibility they have on their shoulders. True professionals.
  • @BradleyG01
The excitement I got from this notification was unreal
  • @ThePrittmaster
I love how Destin is always respectful to everyone. He is always listening and does never act like he is better than someone. Sir, I respect you.
  • @tomm.6265
The Captain seems like an awesome guy to serve for really good with his crew
  • @Dregkar
To the XO instantly being like "Do NOT disturb the sleeping crew" massive respect. The common sense of the XO keeping the Captain in place lol
  • @chriskhall
What I liked most is how deadly serious every single member of the crew is about their job but they are also totally open to be lighter and tease each other and laugh. They have some good leaders on board
  • Thank you for the videos. I am an ex-submariner, attached to the very first Los Angeles class submarine, SSN688 USS Los Angeles based out of Pearl Harbor. I left the Navy around 2000. I can show my kids your videos so they get a look at what my world was like 20 years ago. I was at first a “Radioman” in the Navigation unit, but they merged all of Nav and Radio jobs into one rate called Electronics Tech. I remember having a flooding event while at sea. I remember the best food in the US military. I remember popping the hatch in the middle of 3 Hawaiian Islands for a “Swimming Call”. I remember standing deck watch at port in Pearl thinking about all the American and Japanese who lost their lives there. It was an amazing time of my life. Keep up what you’re doing. You are truly making our youth smarter everyday. 👍👍

I am a Veteran of the "cold war " Submarine Service. I absolutely love the fact that the NAVY let you have such 'plain english' access to the most powerful weapon of all military services... Submarine People! I am honored by willingness to explain and teach others, about our NAVY's "Silent Service"! Science is huge onboard. But, the People... will forever be Brothers and Sisters, when they become "Qualified on Submarines". I cannot wait to see your next video! Thank you, Dustin. Best regards, FTBC/SS Craig Tower

"We're on a ship that sinks on purpose." haha love that line.
  • I absolutely loved this series inside a sub but something i really loved was in the ward room they had a photo of Sean Connery as the captain from Red October pinned up. Around 22:30-23:00 you can see it
  • @99dynasty

This is so cool, I was stationed on the USS Toledo from 2004-2009, we were the ones that painted the diesel yellow and black.
  • Cant wait for the space station smarter everyday video to come out
