A beloved Montreal Christmas tree that lit up a community every holiday season for over 40 years recently went dark to the chagrin of many.
Robert Gallant would rent a crane each year to fill his 70-foot-tall pine with thousands of lights.

But try as he might, Gallant simply could not stop squirrels from chewing through the lights’ wires and ruining the entire display.

This year, however, the community the tree gave so much joy to gave its owners an unexpected surprise. Global’s Dan Spector explains.

I hope he tries again the tree is beautiful 🎄 I got a few ideas to keep the squirrels from chewing through the wires. Spray the wires with clove oil or bitter apple spray. If that doesn’t work maybe run an electric fence wire with the Christmas lights. That way when the squirrel tries to hold on to the wire they get a jolt to deter them from trying.
