I’d pay to see Rodger Federer as a chair umpire overseeing a match between 2 actual chair umpires.

Damn, now that I learned how much Carlos Ramos earned in that Williams-Osaka final, have even more respect for him. He took on Serena's slander under home crowd pressure and has made every right call that day, and could've easily went "f*ck it, it's not worth it".
  • I dont even know how i noticed it but the court shown at 5:39 belongs to the club in which i play. Its TC Harland in Austria
  • @luccacamillo
Holy sh*t the pay comparison between Serena and the umpire... I mean, of course the umpire gets payed a lot less, but equivalent to a single SECOND of play??? Celebrity super salaries are almost unrealistic in scale.
  • @garramiro
Being fired for making an interview. I still can't believe that happened to Steiner.
  • @Sealdrop
their pay is so low...........corruption incoming
  • @TinnieTa21
I feel really bad for Ramos... The outrage that followed that match was complete BS. Serena going on and on about her being a role model for her child and whatnot was just embarrassing.
  • @Bombastic
Always wanted to know this. Great insight and research man!

No matter what anyone says, Serena earned every code violation she received in that US Open final...

His voice is so soothing in not a weird way

I remember using a carpooling service to get to another town, similar to Uber, but literally anyone can drive. The guy who was driving me (and 2 other passengers) was actually a Tennis Chair Umpire and was on multiple grand slams. It was corona season so he had no serious jobs and was driving there to just to be the "umpire" on a kids game for free. He was cool, talked about rock and metal, life in general, it's cool to remind yourself that even those umpires are humans too.

2:55 You may be surprised, but "LMAO GET F*****" is official tennis terminology
  • @BadDrummerCarl
Ramos should have sued for slander or deformation and personal damages against both William's and any media outlet that slandered him for doing his job correctly
  • @dangerjose8240
There needs to be a petition to bring Ramos back to GS finals because he is an excellent umpire.
  • I knew it was tough, but my goodness I didn't know it was THAT difficult 😮
  • @pokemasterx4244
Once he said you must have 2020 vision my dream was crushed

$ 70-80k per year !! For this type of job where you're one of the elite umpires and still get paid like peanuts compared to tournament winner. And I used to think that umpires like Lahyani, Ramos etc used to earn at-least in the range of 400-500k per year. I think it’s a tough job. Jet lag, constant travel, player abuse, media pressure , no support from ITF lol I know that people wouldn't agree with me but given a choice I wouldn't do this type of job with so less remunerations. By the way, awesome video and a great job !!

10:26 My answer is NO. An umpire is too busy dealing with a ton of possible simultaneous factors, in and off court. A ball boy, a line judge, a front row spectator, you name it - it's not too hard finding someone in a privilieged spot who's probably enjoying the show much more than an umpire.
  • @Thighweaver
Honestly that level of stress and 10 years of maintaining a skill that is under appreciated they should get paid way more.
