Damn it's so scary to think about when u r actually dead but organs r still alive

In a nutshell: Brain Death: you're fucking dead. Coma: you're a pokémon out of HP
  • My close friend got into a major accident. Doctors declared him brain dead after 2 days. I knew that brain dead truly means dead But his family was still trying and they got some hope as his heart was still beating through ventilator. They were happy and cheerful that he is still breathing one could see how happy they were after hearing the news that his heart is still beating there is some hope. I was literally in tears looking at how they'll be broken from inside when they know what it truly is.

As an organ recipient, who has survived well over five years since being hours from death due to my original organ failing, may I thank all of you out there who now gas a better understanding of brain death and the possibility of donation. My donor is unknown to me (and the other recipients of their other organs) but my family and I cannot thank their family and loved ones enough for giving us the chance of life after their life ended. Blood donors are wonderful people too, but they don't need to be dead, thank goodness!

Sadly there is another situation. My Dad had complications 3 weeks post heart surgery... Blood vessel burst and lost blood... Did CPR and it caused brain injury. He appeared brain dead outwardly... But the neurologist said his was severe irreversible brain injury. His frontal cortex had not been injured... But he was also not truly in a coma. They said he was technically initiating his breaths but due to the brain stem being injured his airway needed ventilator to stay open. We ended up pulling the plug after 2 days and no sign of healing... And he passed peacefully and quickly. RIP Dad ❤.

The way he says "no one has ever, ever, ever woken up from brain death" seems like he's tempting fate lmao. If this was a movie or something some mf would rise from the grave tmmrw 💀💀
  • I hate why this got recommended to me after my mom went through this. They did confused the whole family with calling it coma and brain death.
  • Sometimes I feel that doctors themselves can't tell the difference. 3 years ago my uncle was in a coma and on life support. The doctors said that he would not likely wake up. They wanted to switch off the life support. My father refused and sought legal advice when they threatened to get a court order to switch it off forcibly. Guess what my uncle started showing signs of brain activity. He eventually was taken off life support as he was able to breathe for himself. He eventually woke up however has sustained permanent brain damage affecting mobility and speech. He is still alive and with us today.

Really good explanation - let's hope the message gets out there!
  • To nail the definition of brain death even further, you could also mention that the person's consciousness is, most likely, also gone with zero hope of coming back, and they're not seeing any dreams and not hearing anything from the outside world as opposed to (some?) people in coma.
  • I lost my dad a year ago. he was brain dead due to a heart failure why playing basketball and the ambulance never came in time. My mom kept on bugging me for a while of why I chose to let him go of life support because she thought he was gonna survive so this is a very good explanation.
  • You can feel his frustration as he repeatedly tells us they are not the same , this further informs us that he once met someone who wouldn’t listen to him and proceed to tell everyone they are the same thing , my condolences, (And also I’m not fun at parties you probably know that by now)

This was the case of my Auntie, she was in a state of brain death.. that's why the doctors informed her family that there's no more chances of recovery/survival😭 her organ functions (except for brain) are just dependent with the machines.
  • @ElwoodBluesAK
Spent two nights explaining this to my wife, But she refused to give up any of our child's organs. You'll be missed Kobus ♥♥♥

these kind of videos give me an existencial crysis of the "nothingness" that awaits us in death. i cant get it out of my head for a couple of days but eventually i forget , everyone forgets the impending doom

My aunt had brain haemorrhage after 3 months of having a heart operation. Doctors said she was brain damaged. We kept her in ventilator for few days. Then she passed away in front of me. It was really heartbreaking moment.
  • I was in a coma for a while after a traffic accident. Thankfully I woke up after about a day and a half and I've learned how to walk, talk and function in society again. I'll be left with some chronic health conditions for the rest of my life but I'm glad I'll still be able to enjoy some life quality. To everyone who wasn't as fortunate as I was, I'm with you and I hope things get better one way or another. And to everyone else waking up after a coma or vegetative state, you can do it! It may seem impossible but you will be able to reach the goals you are setting for yourself. Don't let anyone else decide your pace or comfort, do it at your own time, and trust me you will make it. That's what I did- it took me half a year to fully recover physically, but it was half a year well spent. I'm thankful for everyone who has helped me and all the others with these conditions.
  • A coma means that you are alive but in a suspended state of sleep, be it medically induced or by injury resulting in temporary brain damage. Brain death, however, is that from permanent brain damage beyond repair that can lead to the patient being legally dead.
  • I have a living will. If I am in a vegetative state with less than 10% recovery chance, or have Dementia and have no recollection of the people I love, I'm already dead. Take my body and give someone else the chance at life I had, so they can be the person they deserve a chance to be.

Ive never seen or heard this confusion tbh. Infact, when people say brain death it’s most likely they’re trying to insult you as brain dead 💀
