Today I am trying some of the best and worst free art apps on the apple app store on my ipad pro. I haven't done this in 4 years now so I wanted to see what new apps were around! Some of these were 5 star apps, some I had to pay for in the app itself, from squishy painting apps to anatomy apps!

Ipad: My ipad is a 2020 12.9” iPad Pro. You can use many different types of ipads and sizes with an Apple Pencil, Check the apple website - it will tell you on each ipad if you can use the Apple Pencil!

Pencil: I use the Apple Pencil 2nd generation. This one chargers magnetically on the side of the ipad. I stringly do not recommend the first generstion pencil as it charges in the ipad port and is very easy to break.

  • Here is a tip if you do decide to do more with FlipaClip: You can copy and duplicate frames, and then change that frame instead of completely redrawing that scene every frame

Not me remembering that Moriah was sponsored by squishy magic and even had a special offer available in the app like the huge fan I am

I don't have an iPad so i don't know if this app is available for apple devices, but ibispaint x is THE drawing app if you want to paint digitally for free. In my opinion (as someone who uses primarily Krita to paint) it has everything you need as a digital artist: layers, blending modes, clipping layers, a bunch of brushes (most of them are locked, you'd have to either buy the full version or watch one add and get them all unlocked for like 8h the last time I checked. Only really needed if you want textured brushes other than that the free brushes are good enough). I love it and use it occasionally when I'm not in the mood to turn my computer on
  • It'd be cool if she just animated random things sometimes. She is so good at art, and that'd be BOOTIFUL. Even if it's not good, it's good.

  • Magic Poser is actually my main reference source for poses. You can do a decent amount with it without paying for anything

I'm so glad you posted this, my 9 year old has gotten really into Alan Becker's animation and the flipaclip app is actually perfect for him to get the basics of animation. He loves it!
  • I use magic poser on my android phone and it's quite different. Like I can't make a character skinny or fat. Maybe it's a different app but I doubt it. What I like about magic poser the most it's probably the lighting adjustments. You can change both direct light and ambient light depending on what you're going for. You can of course pose the model however you want. So you don't need to spend hours looking for a good reference photo. There's more than one model for different art styles: realistic, different manga/anime proportions. And probably props. You can on android buy props to add which are amazing. Like a chair or bed or desk. It helps with drawing poses more. If it was just a floating man trying to sit in my opinion I could never make it realistic. But with a table and chair I can make it more real and use the props as reference too for perspective. You can also change the colour to more fleshy or crazy if you're drawing some mystical creature. Also there are clothes for models and you can also remove underwear if needed. Sometimes I find the underwear being grey distracting. Like a flesh coloured model with gray underwear is kind of distracting for me. But anyway the models aren't 100% detailed in certain areas. There's also another cool feature called posecloud. Where you can search for poses made by others who share them in this cloud system. You can use them as is or edit them to fit your liking. Also you can save the pose as an image 1x/2x the screen size. And I use it for some of my digital drawings to trace over (like I did in a video of mine) or to have a still pose. To avoid accidentally touching the screen and move the model a kilometer away from where he was.
  • I used to be an sketchbook autodesk artist ever since I was 11 years old and trust me its actually pretty neat I make realistic art of it now that im 15 the brushes are actually really good the app is quite easy but too simple.
  • I love how Chloe completely ignores all the features is flipaclip 🀣🀣🀣. She decides to struggle to make a straight line, instead of the ruler feature. And her struggling to draw the same car over and over instead of duplicatingπŸ˜‚

One app I use a lot is called Medibang paint pro and I briefly saw it at the beginning of the video while she was scrolling through the apps and it's honestly pretty decent and easy for beginners and you can do a lot with it. The only downside is there's not that many brush options but even then you can still do a lot with the ones that are provided. I've been using it for months and I've even made a lot of detailed and complicated pieces so I reccomend it :D

9:40 Pro flipaclip tip: use the ruler in the top right corner and copy pictures by using the circle line tied together( on the left bar under the eraser) and circle the thing you want to copy and click on the right two pictures next to the undo button and you can now copy a picture! β€πŸŽ‰

For making my own pose references I prefer "easypose" I got on with it better and it was less finicky and anger inducing... The one you used made me want to throw my phone against a wall and stamp on it 😩

O my goodness, so glad to see you Chloe, you just brighten a day (welll my night). You are brilliant, love your work quirks and all.
  • I use the art set app, and it always works really well. It does have layers btw, using the same button that changes the paper. You an also added buttons to the bottom, by holding and dragging them to the task bar, that way you don’t have to keep opening the whole menu just to change your brush size, etc. My husband got procreate and I got this one. We wanted to see if it would work as well.

I would LOVE to see Chloe customise a keyboard by painting it and making resin things and stuff like that

Yep the iPad is a nice tablet. I have held back on purchasing a new iPad since I am stuck in photoshop and my ModBook has been working just fine for everything I have thrown at it! Glad that you are doing a video sharing your experience with us, thanks Chloe!
