BEST WILDLIFE PHOTO opportunities Yellowstone Spring

Published 2024-04-08
Sparky shares his favorite Spring wildlife photography hotspots in Yellowstone National Park. Mid April is when the park starts clearing the roads of deep winter snows to make many parts of Yellowstone accessible. Ryan and Sparky have gone multiple times between mid April and mid May and have had great success before the big crowds of summer arrive.
Shares favorite locations such as LeHardys Rapids, Hayden Valley, Madison River, Firehole Geyser Basin, Lamar Valley to Pebble Creek and more. He also highlights Grizzlies, Black Bears, Bison, Bighorns, and even Mountain Bluebirds, White-faced Ibis, and Harlequin Ducks.

  • That's awesome! I agree that you shouldn't "leave fish to find fish." Thanks so much for sharing your great images with me!
  • Loved the Mountain Bluebirds! That was the bird that first got me obsessed with birds when I was a kid! Great video!

That ram at 6:55 and 9:32 (upper right corner) is amazing! Among Bighorn aficionados, Yellowstone has a reputation for smallish rams with less-than-stellar horns, but he is a wonderful exception! He is every bit as huge as some of the trophy-class rams found in the more northern parts of Montana.

So beautiful! Nature at it's finest. Thanks for sharing. I only wish I could have been there too!

Kinda makes me miss the place… a fun look back for sure👍

Great video, Sparky! Lots of fun creatures in Yellowstone that we don’t have here in MN. I have always wanted to see a mountain bluebird. Some day!

A great compilation, Sparky; well done. I would have thought at that time of year, you would have had the place all to yourselves. But, you’re right, the Lower Falls did have a distinctly Japanese look to it. 😊

So fun to watch! Great shots and well put together. Thank you, Sparky!

Love this compilation! Was so glad to hear at the end, that you plan to do a "Fall Favorite Locations". We will hold you to that! PS - thanks for mapping and showing some detail. And I always wondered where they took the duck hunting bobcat photos that we all drool over.

My son and I went to Yellowstone in the summer of 22. It was amazing. It's like the land that time forgot. Those Rams are ellusive..we didn't see one while we were there. I guess cause they stay up on the mountain. Awesome pics and video. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to get back there

Hey Sparky! I agree. Spring in Yellowstone would be a great place to be. Thanks for sharing.
  • Interesting to hear about the lack of interest in the mountain bluebirds. I thought the soft snowy vertical framed image was the most striking of the video.

Awesome video of the wildlife in one of our most beautiful national parks - I see for this year you had to put together a retrospective video. Quick reminder. Our national parks have been quietly handed over to Corporate America and it's quickly turning them all into cash cows. So, if you shoot video in any of the parks from now on and then post on social media without purchasing an expensive permit. Big Brother will hunt you down and slap you with a big fine. - So Sad😢. Sparky, hope you don't mind if I add this link to Park Junkie's post about whats been going on behind our backs. It's full of information that many are still completely unaware of.........https://youtu.be/iXCaBqC14jk?si=qqi3mpQtBPfC680N - Thanks again Spark
