THE REDS - The Communist Party 1920 - 2020 (Documentary)

Published 2020-08-07
Meet ‘The Reds’ as you have never seen them before. This thirty-minute film takes you through the history of the working class and labour movement in Britain since the First World War.

Out of blood-filled trenches and economic crisis emerged a new kind of worker’s party, The Communist Party of Great Britain, dedicated to the overthrow of capitalism and ushering of socialism. Since then, the past 100 years has been a history of struggle against huge odds. Advances have been made, with the occasional step-back, but ultimately with a great many achievements to be proud of. We hope you enjoy this brief look back at our history!

it is sad that the British communist party did not win the hearts and support of many people to create a revolution to overthrow the bourgeoisie to build a proletarian government in Britain

A proud history. Excellent film. The CPB will see new members and greater influence with the present demise of the Labour Party.
  • I'd love to see a debate between Robert Griffiths and Nick Griffin. Far left vs far right the two extremes

It was brilliant to choose not sing the praises of neither Thatcher nor Blair with excessive pleadings, or plight-mongering from the 1980s to 1990s. Tactfull.

This appeared in my feed so after watching - couple of questions. No mention of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact and Nazi Soviet deal to carve up Poland, no mention of Harry Pollits expulsion from the CPGB for not following the CPSU line on the non aggression pact with Nazi Germany, then readmittance once the nazis invaded Russia and the policy Uturn. No mention of the Katyn massacre, gulags and penal battalions. What about poor old Rose Cohen executed by Stalin, along with Rosa Rust, Freda Utley and Pearl Rimel? What about Holodomor and British Communisms support of Stalins murderous purges? What about the CPGBs implosion and vote to dissolve itself in 1991 ? what about the tiny membership numbers of all the existing Communist Parties in the UK (5 at last count) complete lack of any trade union representation. Not to mention the glaring fact that no communist party in the UK has managed to achieve a single one of its objectives or policies ever - ie the overthrow of capitalism led via an organised vanguard party leading the workers into revolution and the dictatorship of the Proletariat? Not one, strikes me as a bit problematic. You have failed to ever gain mass support from the workers, so are you suggesting you will seize minority power and impose it via a secret police, terror, repression and coercion? I’m not having a dig - communists have achieved some good things in the past - but not any of its goals.

The Labour party is Not a socialist party. Nationalisation = State capitalism.
