Published 2024-07-03
Nick and Dan break down the first episode of HBO's Hard Knocks, featuring the Giants' front office. We received an in-depth look at the free agent process, which was led by Director of Pro Scouting Chris Rossetti. Insight about Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, and other Giants were divulged throughout the episode, and the two discuss their thoughts.

I love the opening sequence when Schoen clowned Gio on the Fan!

What was crazy was Hyatt was talking about "Uncrustables" on the very same day on the Huddle show too. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice. 🤣

if darnay was a little bigger he would make a fantastic LB. the people who question why he plays so much over different regimes fail to realize how important it is for nickel DB's to defend the run. if you can't stop the run, your coverage is irrelevant because they will just run it down your throat. he isn't a star but for what he is, Holmes fills a role.

Re: the Sunday ticket / cap situation topic: There won't be any effect to the cap. The cap is based on the amount of revenue the NFL makes (but only certain Revenue streams). Profit = Revenue - Expenses 1. The NFL has to pay money for these settlements, it won't affect their revenue directly, only their expenses. 2. The cap is not affected by Sunday Ticket revenue whatsoever. Therefore, the NFLPA cannot be sued as co-defendants with the NFL in these cases--since they didn't directly see the benefits of keeping the Sunday ticket prices high. 3. Moving forward, once the new CBA is put in place, the NFL could argue for a lower cap or a different calculation. However, they seem more focused on getting a game 18 than cutting the cap. People have mixed feelings on Mike Florio, but he's been covering this case immaculately so far. He was the first person to start covering it in the media, and he's a former lawyer, so he can delve into all the details for those who are interested.

Great video guys as always. Hardknocks really fills the void until camp. The 45 minutes goes by like a flash. Pbj's and f bombs from the gm, gotta love it. I think Brandon Brown will get good exposure and will likely get GM offers next year. Will Panthers GM and Giants GM be vacationing together again this year? Keep it coming guys. Also suggestion for future show, compare roster if Burns trade not made and Giants pick at 37 and have additional cap space outcome to the roster today.

A great RB on a bad team with an awful OL is like having a picture window in a tank
  • @mattinnj979
Schoen had to gently explain to a Bidenesque boss that we’re not spending 15M on a RB and zero on OL AND we are not drafting a RB in first or second round. I do feel Mara insisted on DJ and Schoen was still finding his sea legs. There’s no way Dabs or Schoen thought DJ was good
  • @adamf386
Felt to me when schoen said there would be good rb’s available 2nd week of free agency, he was expecting to have negotiations with saquon first. But when saquon went and signed with the eagles immediately, he had no reason to wait around anymore.
  • Just doing a small amount of digging on Nick pick 100 take….there’s definitely more than you think. Using just pick 100 would be disingenuous bc we don’t know who the Giants would take so I used the pick 100-110 and there are a decent amount of quality players.
  • May be worth trying to get Mara on the show everyone tries for players but it would be nice to get his perspective. Other than the end of the season we don't hear much from him and Hard Knocks makes it look like he's stuck in the 90s

Great analysis! I agree that the first episode made it seem like Daniel Jones is still somewhat under evaluation. How should we square that with all the rumors about the Giants trying to trade up in the draft? Especially considering the first episode was shot well before the draft. If Joe Schoen Is truly not out on Daniel Jones yet, then why would he have been exploring a trade-up as aggressively as he was reportedly doing.
  • @giants9833
Well according to 1/2 the fans, John Mara wanting Jones is the only reason why hes still here. So which is it? Mara forcing Schoen to keep Jones , or he wanted to force Schoen to keep Barkley because he doesn't trust Jones.

We got a few interesting tid bits but that's it. The editing made the show so hard to follow and the episode was kind of all over the place. Most of the time the footage they showed had nothing to do with the audio being played, it was very bizarre. Hopefully this series isn't going to be half made up of clips of Joe Schoen talking in slow motion like the first episode was.

No diddy bro you too good looking for the state trooper stache
  • I get that RB is a luxury bad teams can't afford, but it's exactly the same for an injury prone TE. Can't pay for an OL and pay a RB, but they brought in several OL to just keep being bad. At some point we have to realize that it's coaching, because the Giants have been terrible at developing the OL.
  • @mikegarner53
You gotta take that hat off Nick Thanks for the upload boys
  • 100% agree with Joe Schoen when he said “you don’t pay a QB 40 million to hand off to a 12 million RB” .. it’s the year of Daniel jones in a sport where the QB is the most important position. Let’s finally give him an actual chance to succeed with a new o line and WR 1

Based on tape, and your assessment, is Runyon significantly better than Glowinski?
