Voice Teachers React to BTS NPR Tiny Desk

Wow!! Thank you all so much for watching this video! We wanted to address a comment that we seem to be getting a lot about autotune. We believe that autotune was used in the first song simply as a vocal effect. This does not mean that they "need" autotune in order to sing the right notes, they are obviously amazing singers without any vocal effects. So why would they use autotune? Because it sounds amazing with electronic instruments! If you listen to the difference in the way their voices sound from the first song to the rest of the performance, we hope you can hear that the first song has somewhat of a "metallic" effect in the voices! Bruno Mars is an amazing singer and in 24k magic he uses autotune because is goes well with this disco pop sound, not because he cant sing the notes! We understand if you disagree with us but I hope you can accept that we know that BTS can sing without any effects and it will be amazing! I think it's better that you guys went in without knowing even their names/positions in the group cause it allows you for a fully unbiased view on their vocals imo, so don't worry about not knowing who is the leader or the main vocalist LOL thank you so much this was such an educational video!

Jimin's "squeak", "vocal cry" is his signature. A lot of people loved that from Jimin.

The one in the vest, Taehyung, is a baritone. He's got an interesting voice and the biggest range. When you watch their backstage videos, he'll sometimes sing some opera.

JK is known as the "Ad-lib King" as well. He knows everyone's parts and can even fill in for a missing rapper!

If I’m not mistaken, the auto tune effect was taken off after Dynamite. That is literally just how they sound.

Jimin really has a small thin voice but even when he is singing together with other people his voice pops out, and you would be able to notice him and say 'oh is jimin there' is crazy

Jimin's vocal style/tone is very distinct and I think he's the only one that can naturally do it. Its sexy, feminine and soft. I love it so much

Jungkook does a lot of the harmonies in the background while the camera usually pans on the singers who’s role it is

The Korean language is very sonically pleasing. I started watching shows from various parts of the world and I just fell in love with the sound of the Korean language watched many k-dramas. This led me to BTS which then led me to other kpop artists. BTS's brand is positivity and lyrically they are very strong which is one of the reasons they have such a huge fan base. Me being one.
