The mighty Autobot City Commander gets a well deserved character overview. As one of Optimus Prime's most trusted lieutenants, Ultra Magnus is a thorough soldier.

This is a remaster of a previous video (Originally published September 10, 2016)! You can see the original version here:    • Video

I always saw him as a very capable second in command who's disciplined, strong and capable of getting the job done. I dunno why so manu iterations of him treated him like a scapegoat to glorify the other main characters.
  • To me, The G1 version will always be the best. Had him when I was little and loved both his robot and truck forms.
  • From the secret files of Teletraan II: Ultra Magnus is the most mature spokesman for the Autobot cause. As a soldier, he is always practical and serious. And he is so loved by his fellow Autobots that Wheelie and Daniel traveled millions of miles to the Autobot records asteroid, just so they could find out Ultra Magnus's birthday. In his vehicle mode, Ultra Magnus is an armored transport truck, a machine with magnificent fighting skills. His enemies, the Decepticons, respect his courage, but most of all, they fear Ultra Magnus's spirit of self-sacrifice. He always thinks first of the welfare of his fellow Autobots and his mission.

Additional note: in Transformers Prime, renowned actor Michael Ironside voiced Ultra Magnus.

I relate to Magnus hardcore. I want to help where I can, and do all I am capable of, but the top dog leadership role isn't for me.

Totally love the idea of Magnus and Prime being brothers. Adds an interesting dynamic to the character.
  • Ultra Magnus: "I've never seen anything this beautiful in the entire galaxy... Alright, give me the bomb." Lol! This ranks up there with Kup's "No, my name's Teaspoon, I'm Cybertron's Chief Dishwasher." remark as one of the funniest quotes in G1. I love the matter of fact dead pan delivery. XD

Ultra Magnus is probably the most famous Transformer Bay hasn’t ruined.

“I’ve never seen anything this beautiful in the entire galaxy” “Alright, GIVE ME THE BOMB”

Ultra Magnus is pretty cool character. He screams commander to anyone just by looking at him. And man I could imagine him being voiced by Liam Neeson. You would certainly not want to threaten him. Also I really like how his siege figure looks. Having a white colored Optimus inside him again sounds awesome.
  • Optimus: "The courageous Ultra Magnus is a born leader!" Magnus: "We meet at last, Galvatron." Galvatron: "And it will be the LAST time we meet." Idc what the writers say---Dion was Ultra Magnus! 😁 However flawed season three was, I always loved Magnus' stabilizing influence on Rodimus, and the patient counsel he gave him. Perhaps because by the time WE met the Transformers, Optimus was a long-seasoned pro and needed no counseling...though in both the U.S. and U.K. comics we occasionally saw second-in-command bot Prowl filling that role. Speaking of the U.K. comics, they were simply incredible at telling tales of Magnus, Rodimus and the Movie crew, fleshing them out even further than the movie! "Minimus Nimbus" my minimal gluteus maximus!! What a dopey "idea." Lord, how I DETEST the plot device vortex that those IDW writers created with my G1 bots. (But THAT...is a discussion for another day.) When Ultra showed up in TF: PRIME, I was tickled pink, declaring to my brother: "Ultra Magnus no JOKE! The 'Bots NEED the heavy power of Magnus!! (Too bad he couldn't have bought a few Wreckers with him! Twin Twist, Whirl...you know Bulkhead and Roadbuster were BEST BUDS! 😄) Great to see this updated, Primal. Magnus may not think he's worthy, but the REST of us certainly think he is! 🎖😃

Me: I need to get back to this group project. YouTube: Rodimus Primal released a new video. Friend: let’s get back to work. Me: I can’t deal with that now!

My theory is that Omega Prime is infact on of the original Thirteen and his spark would split into two which would ended up as Omega's two descendents, Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus.
  • I love how Ultra Magnus is portrayed in Robots in disguise and his relationship with his brother
  • @Zucchinna
he is still one of my all time favorites. I love his Master Piece, and he's great in IDW

I want to say that Dion was rebuilt by Alfa Trion to become Magnus. Since we don't know what happened to Dion. Magnus and Prime always seemed close and upon Prime's death he referred to Magnus as "Old Friend". Orion and Dion were best friends before they were rebuilt so that's the story I go with.

I liked Magnus more than I liked Prime because I was first introduced to Prime on the small screen. Ultra Magnus, however, first came to me on the big screen, larger than life, with a big-time, charismatic voice and commanding presence. Sure, he came across as impatient and was taken down easily but he displayed a great tactical mind and a never-quit attitude, and was a true survivor. When I read the comic adaptation of the movie and saw that his armor had merely pulled apart, which is why he was able to be resurrected, I knew that he was something special and he has been my favorite Transformer (next to Prowl). Long live Ultra Magnus!
