JJ will prove a lot of people wrong

I know this is late, but I have been watching JJ for the past two years. What you (and many others) are missing, is that he has some of the most important qualities that most others don't. 1. He is utterly unselfish. He always played to win (and win he did), putting the team's and his coaches' needs and wishes before his own glory. That is a coachable talent and very rare. 2. He has the highest 3rd and 7+ conversion rate of any of the top six QB's in the draft. When it count, he delivers. 3. He is very athletic, much more than people think and is a true double threat. 4. He is a true and tried leader that has shined in the biggest moments on the biggest stages. At worse, he never let the situation overwhelm him. 5. JJ has always won the fullest respect from all his teammates, coaches, and fans. He earned their trust and by all accounts, was confident and humble. I think at the Vikings he has a great chance to become one of the best QB's in the NFL. You just watch,. Thanks for the fair and informative content. :-) Well done.
  • As long as McCarthy lands in a decent situation he's going to be a top 10 QB in the league.

JJ McCarthy: 27-1, highest 3rd down conversion rate, along with several other best “when you need it most” statistics compared to his qb peer’s. It’s hard to say what will come of him, but he certainly has the decision making talent to become a star in the NFL. I wouldn’t rule him out.
  • This guy is seriously comparing a QB that won the National Championship on a Big10 team to Trey Lance who played 1 season at NDSU?!? C'mon man - that's a HUGE jump in logic.
  • @michalum04
You seem to make a lot of statements that aren't really backed up by evidence. Like arguing that a guy with a 72% completion percentage that almost never throws screens (among the fewest attempts in the country) has a huge problem with ball placement seems crazy, and especially to a person that saw every single pass he threw all season. It's also weird how often you mention inferior opponents when Michigan played (I believe) 3 different defenses in the S&P top 5 and 5 different defenses in the S&P top 15.

Joe Montana was a college game manager quarterback who had less passing yardage and more interceptions than McCarthy. the notion that a quarterback in a running offense can't become a pro passing quarterback is nonsense. blaming the player for coaching is stupid. Montana was mobile, accurate, and could throw on the run and create off platform. McCarthy reminds of Montana. pocket presence. accurate. strong arm. smart....

What you said about JJ can be said about every single QB in every draft every year!!! Where he lands and the talent surrounding him as well as the coaching staff has as much to do with a QB's ultimate success or failure as anything that the individual brings...here's a perfect example...If JJ lands in Minnesota or Denver I think he has a way higher chance for success than if he was to end up with the commanders, giants or patriots. Personally I'd like to see him fall to 29 and end up in Detroit where he could sit back and learn from Goff for a couple seasons...he'd still be young and have two years to learn and develop.

Bro the last month of Michigan regular season JJ was Injured and it was reported as an arm injury. That's why whole game plan was to attack with Blake!
  • @annarbor94
JJ's a Killa Dawg......He was never asked to throw the ball 40 times a game but I'm more than confident that if he did, he would've put up just as good, if not better numbers than Caleb or Jayden Daniels. Neither of them were coached by a former NFL coach and QB. JJ is the epitome of untapped potential. His ceiling is in space somewhere. For me, after that TCU loss and him telling the world that "We'll be back and I guarantee you that" and he does it.....That's all I need to know.
  • @michigan1777
To be fair to JJ... And really any qb, if you arent throwing the ball frequently, you wont get into a rhythm. When he threw the ball more cinsistently, he was generally better. Throwing once every 3 to 5 plays is going to knock you out of rhythm quickly
  • @JDinero7023
People get on Caleb but sheesh jj 🙄, it's written all over his face.Penix is the most underrated cause of his injuries.
  • @igotnukes6011
"Just" two seasons of college starts under his belt? "Just" 28 college starts, including two CFB trips and natty? That makes him a "raw prospect"?
  • @kyllerkill
Jj is a great qb. He’s going to end up the best qb in this draft. If he goes to Minnesota he could win a Super Bowl in his first year.
  • @mtredeker7294
The best things about McCarthy is he is trainable, willing to listen to his coaches, willing to learn new things. You don’t find too many kids his age that have that mindset! He is very respectful and LOVES the LORD! That is a lot coming from a kid his age. I think you need to take some lessons on being respectful to other people rather than make YouTube videos trying to point out other people’s faults! Wait and see what God does in this young man’s life!

Vikings fan here.. But not a homer. 1. I think the points here are not wrong 2. Basically he has a lot of positives at the same time he has a very small sample size 3. He is still very young and unpolished in many ways (compared to an almost 24 yr old Michael Penix for example) 4. About 40 -50% of 1st round qbs are busts. Only a fool says they know which ones will be. Obviously very early in OTAs/rookie camp. The team reporters (credentialed ones) basically have said the same thing so far 1. He physically looks the part of a 1st rounder. Passes explode out of his hand 2. He clearly needs polishing but is also showing a lot of talent 3. He will not be rushed into starting. He might start week 1, he might not start at all this year. When it happens, it happens 4. A solid staff is training him up. He is a hard worker. Can he put it all together? That is the $64 million question
  • @donniejuan
Bad analysis, check the PFF stats for JJ on third down and long, JJ by far was the best QB in college.
  • @jesselondon2442
Does anybody remember kirk cousins at mich st.? JJ is so much better than him, rookie's dont have to come out like stroud did. It doesn't barely ever happen like that, even after last season i still think bryce young will be good, just give it time. JJ is gonna be good, maybe not right away but he will be good, i guarantee it.
  • @jakeMontejo3272
Not completely sold on JJM either but this take is extremely unhinged. To compare him to Wilson, Love and Russel is apples to bowling balls. JJM has played three straight years in the playoffs & against competition that those three never saw. Plus he played in a pro style offense and was taught by a former QB1 in the league. You didn’t see that he was calling protection & was basically another coach on the field. He suffered through two huge losses in the playoffs but lead them back to rise above that. None of those players are even in the same league as this kid when you factor those in. His two years of starting is concerning but to maximize contracts in a short career he had to come out this year. The three QBs above him haven’t won on his level either, and their flaws are equally apparent to his. Drafting a QB is a crapshoot but this kid is as good if not better than anyone else not named Caleb.
