Building the pressure for invisible advantage, improving position of all the pieces... and then it's too late. Rubinstein's style is incredible...
  • Thanks to Mordimer for another excellent video from the Carlsbad tournament 1907. They were giants then.

Chess looks simple and logical when Rubinstein plays
  • From the little I've seen of Mordimer's Rubinstein saga so far there is something relaxing (!), arithmetical and utterly logical about Rubinstein's play. Count the defenders and count the attackers, and here take more of the order of the same. It's not the same having the queen as last defender as second last. 15:24
  • Rubinstein's chess is like kyusho-jitsu, the Oriental martial art which focuses on nerve clusters and pressure points. Here the whole game revolves around e4.
  • So Mordimer you will not believe me but I have touched 1685 in last week or so. I focus more on the positional fundamentals and exchange pieces if it offers me a superior endgame with solid pawn structure. All thanks to your videos especially those on Rubinstein.

Nice game. It was pretty great seeing two 2700+ players battle, and even though they had a few ‘boo-boos’ in the game, by and large it was an impressive fight. Per usual, the center proved to be the most decisive point of skirmish, and Rubinstein strategically proved superior in domination of it. Keep it up, Mordimer. 👌👌👌

Solid analysis as usual by Mordimer- but... 4 midroll ad breaks as well as a banner ad is too much. This is the same problem that Dan King has on his station which has the result of me watching it only sporadically now instead of nearly every video. I hope the same doesn't happen here, but maybe I will have to study the book Rubenstein's Chess Masterpieces instead of watching Mordimer if it doesn't change.

To be honest, Rubinstein didn't show anything outstanding in this game. It was Duras who killed himself when he started this crappy plan with 20.Bd2, and then 21.Nf3, 22.h4...

It looked like white got already too much space, then ka-boom, too late to defend
